Joel John

I am eager to join the Malayali Society as the Welfare Secretary. With my skills and experience, I strongly believe I can have a positive impact on all the members. I'd be thrilled to help make next year's socials just as engaging and inclusive, ensuring everyone has a safe space to celebrate our culture.

I am certain that I am the right person for this role as I have prior experience running the Medical Discussion Club at my college, so know how to collaborate successfully with other leaders to ensure the members have the best experience. Also, by running the club, I cultivated effective project management and time-management skills (for a Malayali!) which are essential to hold the amazing socials we are known for.

Furthermore, I feel I have established good connections with current members, especially the first years, so I have a strong foundation to help current or future members with issues they may have. In addition, I have developed strong communication and empathy skills through my volunteering with: the elderly in hospital wards, children at youth clubs, and adults with learning disabilities. Hence, I am well equipped to handle any concerns the members or committee may have and deal with them appropriately.

Additionally, being on the committee would contribute to my personal development by deepening my ties to my cultural heritage and integrating me into an inclusive student society. Furthermore, it would enhance my leadership and teamwork skills, for my future career.
