Polina Zhilina

Hey, I’m Polina, and I’m applying to be Social Sec!

I’d love to create an inclusive environment for all live music members, regardless of year, identity or skill.

I’d like to focus on hosting socials that blend all people in LM together (both very active and casual members) based on a joint love of music. While there are already opportunities to meet people at gigs and open mics, it would be nice to host 2-3 socials a term that don’t involve making music, but rather feature more casual socializing: something like quizzes, board game nights, pumpkin carving (for halloween), LM Jazz night takeover, or going to watch a concert together.

I’d like to do more with the family program, so that people new to LM can actually connect with more experienced members. Based on people’s individual wants, some parents can be casual friendships to talk music with, while others can act as mentors, advising their kids on how to successfully audition for shows, apply for prod team, or get involved. Events should be more frequent, and vary from chill socializing to families making music together, not only in the form of competitions, but also in things like jams. There, I think new members should have more opportunities to use tech, and time in the SPR.

I’ve met some of my closest friends through LM. It has provided me with so many opportunities for growth, joy and passion. I’d love to be on committee and help make the society as inclusive and successful as possible.

Diana Camba

i want to be social sec because it's really important to me that everyone feels confident to participate in our events, and i believe that that confidence comes from feeling happy and welcome at those events. i can understand that it can be a little daunting during the first few weeks, especially given how tight-knit the existing music community already is. however, as social sec, it's my aim to ensure that newcomers feel like they've been a part of the community for as long as the rest of us have, right from the very first event.

the existing LM families are a great way for new members to meet each other, as well as existing members, and next year, i think organising more frequent family socials would be great! additionally, i think more society socials as a whole would be great. i think everyone loves a pub crawl, and for members that like a cosier social, i think a movies and pizza night could also be really nice!

i'm a massive yapper, so i would definitely be an easy person for someone new to talk to, and i'm too unserious for people to consider me intimidating, so i would say i'm also easy to approach! as it is, i love meeting new people, and if, as social sec, i can do that and also make sure that someone new members feel happy and welcome, then that's even better :)

Yuki Li

Hello, I am Yuki!! I am a 1st-year sociology student:) Since joining LM Soc, I’ve been actively involved in all sorts of events—from Rhapsody and RnBlooms to LM Family and all the cute socials. This society has been where I’ve met the most genuine, talented, and lovely people, and I want to help create even more opportunities for us to connect and bond.

My Vision

  • Making socials easier & more welcoming. I know how intimidating socials can be as I was once the shy new one. I will always prioritise people-focused approach, making meeting others feel natural, whether it’s finding a bandmate, collaborator, or friend. I’ll ensure every event is relaxed, inclusive, and easy to join.
  • Strengthening LM Family. I want to make LM Family a more flexible and interactive space where new talents connect with existing members in long term. Whether through expandable group swaps or linking it with workshops, gigs, and jam sessions, it should be a place for real collaborations and musical growth.
  • Cross-Society Performance Socials. Arts UCL is a strong creative network, and I want to organise more hybrid events where performances and socials blend, creating a space for music, movement, and natural social opportunities.
  • Post-Exam Season Holidays. After a year of hard work, we all deserve a break! I want to organise a post-exam social—whether it’s a day trip or a big gathering—giving us a chance to unwind, reflect, and celebrate everything we’ve achieved together.

    SO...VOTE FOR ME(o^^o)

Gemma Villoresi

Hi everyone! I’m Gemma and I’m looking to get involved into committee next year. I am currently on my year abroad and was events officer for Live music society last year. During my time as events officer, while trying to come up with new events, I found that I also wanted to organise more socials and fun activities for all Live music members, which are an opportunity for people to get involved in the society without necessarily having to perform, and they also allow for more creativity and flexibility from the organisational perspective.

A few ideas that I had were fried chicken movie night (music related movie) or a Shazam board games night, where people play together with music in the background, and everyone gets to add a few of their favourite songs in the queue. Of course I would also bring back the traditional quiz nights and LM Families activities. Socials are a great chance for LM members to get in touch with more musicians or become part of a band, and it’s important to organise frequent ones to have a community within the society. I would also promote more non-drinking socials outside of the events in the UCL bars, which I think are necessary.

My experience as an events officer is certainly valuable as I am already familiar with all the aspects of event organising related to budget, booking, scheduling or working with the Student Union.
I loved my time as a Committee member and hope that I can be part of that again next year, organising new and fun social events!
