Aizhan Sadirbayeva

I’m running for Vice President of the Life Science Society to help build a stronger community for life science students. As an academic representative, I’ve been actively relaying student feedback to module and course organizers—whether it’s addressing scheduling issues or suggesting lecture improvements. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is for student voices to be heard because, after all, everyone deserves to feel supported and make the most of their university experience.

If elected, I’d love to expand career networking opportunities, connecting students to industry professionals, research mentors, and career pathways beyond university. Just like all of you, I am a student figuring out the search for internships and work experience, so I understand how valuable these opportunities are - and I will do my best to give the LSS members better access to them. I also want to help organise more engaging events, allowing students in all year groups to connect outside of lectures. Most importantly, I want to ensure that everyone feels supported and represented within the society.

With my experience and enthusiasm, I’m confident I can help make the Life Science Society even more impactful and welcoming, working alongside the president and other committee members to create a better experience for everyone. I’d love the opportunity to support and represent you all in this role!

Clarissa Chua

I believe I’m the perfect candidate to be Vice-President of the Life Science Society because I bring a unique combination of enthusiasm, dedication, and a deep love for biology—don’t worry, I promise I won’t “cell” you short on effort (unless it's to help you avoid a pun overload). With my passion for all things life science and an undeniable ability to communicate effectively, I’ll ensure the society thrives. If you want a Vice-President who can balance engaging events, insightful discussions, and a touch of humor, I am the one for you. And don't worry—I’ll keep the puns to a minimum—after all, we can’t all be organized, but I’ll do my best. Let’s make sure this year one full of growth, academically and socially, with someone who is genuinely committed to supporting the society’s success.

Rebecca May Zin

As a Vice President candidate, my priority is to create an environment where every initiative is driven by students needs. I'll collaborate closely with the president to plan and promote events and collaborate with other similar societies, ensuring LSS members gain the most valuable experiences and opportunities out of it.

Last year, I interned for an education company, where my duties involved coordinating with business leaders and managing students' attendance based on their availability. As simple as it may seem, I didn't envision it to be hetic. When at the front, it was critically important to be clear on what was to be done. Having organized more than four excursions, I am now emboldened to take on more responsibilities like such in life science society.

My experiences over the past 2 years have deepened my understanding of one's needs and the importance of empathy. Working in refugee camps and seeing firsthand the devastating impact of displacement, such as the urgent need for basic necessities, have instilled a sense of compassion in me. Finally, working as a patient volunteer at an NHS hospital has reinforced my commitment to make a tangible difference within the community. Therefore, I am always there for everyone, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive.

I am eager to serve the life science society as a dedicated committee member and work towards the society's goals. At the same time, maintain a fun and engaging environment.
