Candidates

Lianne Ng

Hey everyone! My name is Lianne, a second-year Biomedical Sciences student and this year’s Vice President :) Over the past year, I’ve helped organise a range of events, including pub crawls, a PhDs and pizzas session, a Summer Internship panel, and a Healthcare Consulting panel. I’ve loved working with the committee to bring these to life and I’m committed to keeping our society active and engaging if I'm your next President!

If elected, I’ll introduce exciting new initiatives for everyone. I’ll continue organising creative monthly academic and social events to help students connect with industry professionals, explore Life Science careers, and meet new people. I’ll also work to finally launch our long-awaited Life Science merchandise – potentially collaborating with the Biosciences department to feature the official UCL logo! Plus, I’d love to introduce a family system to strengthen support and community across year groups.

I also believe my leadership experiences make me a great fit for this role. In addition to serving as Vice President of LSS, I’m an Events Executive for the Impact Careers Society and Welfare Officer of Knitting Society this year. Previously, I was Programme Director of a school camp and Vice President of my high school’s student council. These experiences have sharpened my event-organising, communication and teamwork skills that I’m eager to apply to LSS.

Vote for me as your next President, and we’ll make LSS into a warm community full of opportunities!

Saloni Shirke

Hey everyone! I’m Saloni, and I’m running to be your Life Sciences Society President!

From lab work at UCL to tutoring students through science and maths challenges, I’ve always loved making science more engaging, collaborative, and—most importantly—fun! As Biochemistry Student Rep, I’ve worked to enhance student experiences by organizing events, voicing student concerns, and building a stronger academic community. Now, I want to do the same for our Life Sciences Society!

If elected, I’ll bring:
🔬 More hands-on workshops & career panels – Let’s bridge the gap between lectures and real-world applications!
🎉 Exciting social events & cross-society collabs – Because networking is easier over a pub quiz or a science-themed cocktail night!
🧪 A supportive, engaging environment for all – Whether you’re here for academic insights, career advice, or just a good time with like-minded peers, I want to make this society welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

I believe that science is about curiosity, discovery, and teamwork, and I want to make sure that the Life Sciences Society reflects that. If you want a president who’s approachable, driven, and always ready to make things happen—vote for me!

Anay Bindroo

Hello! My name is Anay, this year's FYR and a first-year biochemist. As an FYR, I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge about the LSS and have lots of ideas for the next year. This year, I promoted events to my cohort and helped out with any work I was delegated by the rest of the committee.

If I was elected, I would:

  • Ease the transition of freshers into UCL by hosting 'crash courses' on how to hack their new courses from the realistic advice of a student
  • Organising more social events to promote networking and unity between the faculty of Life Sciences
  • Explore the diverse applications of LS courses in the job industry and all the niches a graduate can occupy after graduating
  • Host a 'LSS Take Me Out' night to matchmake the most compatible duos (pending approval)

The key role of a Life Science Society is ultimately to help students discover the wide range of opportunities available to them as a result of months of hard work and crashing out over weekly summative tests at this incredible institution. I am passionate about making a real difference in the Life Sciences Society, and I hope to have the opportunity to implement these ideas as your President.
