Lorrine Sum

Hi everyone! My name is Lorrine, and I'm excited to put myself forward as the Managing Web Editor for Kinesis Magazine.

I am…

🧬 A Biomedical Sciences student fascinated about all fields of science (especially biology, of course!)

✨ Passionate about making science engaging and accessible

✒️ The author of a Kinesis article on aphantasia (check it out here!)

✅ An effective leader and an experienced editor – as the Editorial Board Director of a student-led organisation, I guided my team of writers in producing 15+ themed articles, ensuring timely and high-quality content delivery

🔨 The designer of our organisation's website – I ensured that our platform was visually appealing, easy to navigate, and updated promptly

🎯 A detail-oriented team player, committed to working closely with writers to publish high-calibre articles while preserving their unique voices

😆 Excited to read what you talented people will create in the coming year!

My experience in editing and website management, along with my strong attention to detail, makes me the perfect fit for the Managing Web Editor role. With your support, I’d be honoured to contribute to a magazine that has already achieved so much!

Thank you for reading, and don’t forget to cast your vote :D

Altay Shaw

Hi Everyone,

Altay here, your current managing editor. I wish to run for a committee role one last time within Kinesis.

Since I started at Kinesis, I have ensured I did everything I could for our beloved society. Whether it be working with all the amazing members to ensure we could deliver for everyone. Whether it was an article or delivering our publication to short listings at a local or national level. It has been my privilege to work with everyone.

For the upcoming year, I want to develop the online side of our publication through:

  • Developing relations with departments across campus, ensuring writers are provided with press releases and access to key personnel to write gripping pieces—whether they be features, news, or opinion pieces.

  • Expand our written body of work to include reviews, gaming-related articles, and creative and thought-provoking pieces. We are a society that marries art and science; let's bring this focus back to our publication to provide variety to our readers.

  • Expand our speaker series to have dedicated workshops on skills our members want and to have a greater focus on topics that interest our members within STEM.

  • Work with other publications to create joint events and schemes that focus on improving not only the accessibility of our work but also on creating a greater sense of community for all of our members.

It has been an honour to be a part of Kinesis this long and it would mean the world to me if you voted me in for one final year on the committee.
