If you had invested just $1,000 in NVIDIA in 2003, you’d have over $600,000 today. Wise investments pay off, and- through my 3-pillar strategy below- I hope you see that voting for me is one of them.

  1. Expand the Finance Conference

The finance conference is our flagship event, but we can take it to new heights. By securing high-profile speakers from IBD to AM to PE, we’ll provide members with invaluable insights and networking opportunities, making it a must-attend event; a direct pipeline to industry leaders and career opportunities.

  2. Grow Our £10k Investment Portfolio

My goal is to expand our current £10k portfolio by diversifying asset classes and introducing a structured investment strategy. We’ll analyze idiosyncratic opportunities in equities and ETFs, ensuring members gain exposure to real-world portfolio management. By involving students in decision-making through an investment committee, we’ll create an environment where learning meets capturing alpha.

  3. Strengthen Mentorship

I will organize tailored events for first, second and third year students, addressing the specific challenges and opportunities at each stage. This approach ensures that every member receives relevant, impactful experiences. Additionally, we’ll organize exclusive career development sessions covering CV building, technical interview prep, and networking strategies.

To make this possible, your vote is crucial. Together, let’s make our Investment Society the best it can be. I value your

Nayan Chopra

Hey, I am Nayan and I am running for the Vice-President of Conference and Competitions position.

My objective is quite clear: to make Investment SOC the premier finance society among the schools here.

Some of my experiences:

  • Captained my sports team for 8 years, leading them to a top-two finish each year, and represented Singapore in a World Cup event.
  • A Sergeant in the Singapore Army, leading my team through complex missions and scenarios
  • Responsible for conducting a bond masterclass for bankers from large banks and creating investment portfolios for various clients.

I believe these experiences have helped me develop the skills to plan and execute large-scale events effectively. I have come to appreciate the importance of networking and the value of being involved in major events. I hope to be the one to bring such high-impact events to our members, providing unique learning opportunities and increasing involvement for all our members.

What I hope to achieve:

  • The organisation of a flagship event that we can uniquely call our own – in the form of conferences, workshops, and a case competition to round it off.
  • In-house valuation contests and investment strategy decisions (which could be against EFS & UCLAM or even other universities too!).
  • Partnerships with firms to offer tangible rewards such as mentorship programmes or CV reviews.

Although this is one of the largest societies at UCL, there is still so much we can do for our members, and I hope to share my vision with everyone here.

Coming from a humanities background, I know firsthand how people underestimate your capabilities in the corporate world. I get asked what ‘Comp Lit’ actually is more than I’m asked if I want to go into finance, perhaps because people don’t make the connection. In reality, I believe I’m well-suited for this role because my degree gives me a unique perspective (if anything, I can recommend a book to “sell you this pen”).

As VP of Conference and Competitions, I want to prove that analytical and communication skills transcend disciplines. I saw firsthand how impactful the Finance Conference was. I walked in clueless and walked out pitching a stock in my BX interview without blacking out. Now, I’d love to give back and ensure more students gain the guidance and exposure they need to succeed. I’d focus on organising more case study challenges and providing better networking guidance (because let’s be honest, no one wants to be stuck in a room full of people competing for attention and awkwardly exchanging LinkedIn profiles..)

As Collaborations Officer for the Kazakh Society, I secured sponsorships for the Central Asian Spring Festival, raising £15k and growing our outreach to over 2,000 attendees. I’ve pitched to sponsors, built long-term partnerships, and coordinated large-scale events, so trust me when I say I can bring in the high-profile speakers.

Finance may be a dog-eat-dog world, but in the spirit of changing that, put your faith in me.
