As the Head of my high school’s Global Education Programme, I liaised with ten schools worldwide to discuss current global issues and concerns. This experience equipped me to navigate diverse perspectives, and also gave me a good understanding of international students' needs through interacting with them.
My involvement in the executive committee of my high school's student union also gave me the opportunity to organise large-scale events and work collaboratively with students to address their concerns.
You can trust me to build a strong, inclusive community for international students at UCL.
I will implement:
- Increased accessibility to financial resources for int. students (I understand how expensive university, especially in London, can be).
- Pre-departure and arrival information sessions for students with firm offers, addressing issues like student accommodation applications, visas, BRP, etc.
- Official housing support for int. students who were not offered student accommodation.
- Frequent virtual information sessions and open days, with strategic timings that cater to different time zones.
- Increased cultural events across UCL, working alongside various cultural student union societies.
As an international student who has moved from Shanghai to Singapore and now to London, I understand firsthand the challenges of integrating into a new community. I know the significant sacrifices we’ve all made to pursue our passions at UCL. Hence, I am committed to making sure that each day here is meaningful and rewarding for all of us.
You can trust me to be your voice, actively listening to your needs and concerns while ensuring you feel at home. Plus, I love connecting with people and fostering relationships within our diverse community.
I’ll always be down for a chat! :)

I am enthusiastic about organising and communicating with others. During high school, I was a class monitor, and I organised several class events like the New Year’s Eve party and Drama Festival. And as a president of Architectural Design Society, I organised the architecture design and got the second prize in 12th Architectural Design Festival. When attending OGSYL, I was a group leader and led my group members to work on a project comparing fMRI and PET. Notably, we were awarded ‘Best Presentation Award’. As an international student, I am familiar with the needs of international students.
I would like to participate in the student union to help with building a strong network between international students, and I am willing to hear from fellow international students the type of events they want and plan more creative and interesting cultural and intercultural open to all students. From my own experience in taking part in the orientation events, I feel that it's a good way for international students to get settle and used to a different culture, so I'm eager to participate in the planning and improving the events to make more international students feel at home.
I am an enthusiastic international student with strong organising and communication skills. And I promise you that I will devote myself to creating more fun and creative cultural events and help more new international students that are coming in the next academic year adapt to a different culture and feel more at home. In addition, I would really like to hear from you all about your ideas of holding new events and I will carry them out. Please vote for me and you won't regret! Thank you so much!

As a Korean born and raised in Hong Kong that has just arrived in the UK, I am particularly experienced with meeting new cultures and I hope to extend this excitement to student life at UCL. Growing up around different cultures at home, at school, and outside makes me uniquely aware of the difficulties in adapting and the necessity of forming communities to maintain your immersion in your own culture.
- Former experience in leadership communications and marketing roles at high school clubs
- Experience with coordinating school wide events
- Open-mindedness and empathy towards different experiences
My main priorities in this role would be to foster a well connected community at UCL between different cultures people feel comfortable joining. If I am given the privilege of representing this role, I hope to involve students of a diversity of backgrounds to create a more inviting and welcoming community. I hope to hear what international students believe is necessary to facilitate greater intercultural events and celebrations.
- Events to promote intercultural exchange at UCL through food
- Working on orientation week for international students to foster a better community
- Language support
I am astutely aware of the difficulties of moving away from home and would love to provide extra support in getting you settled into the UCL community. As someone who has grown up in a diverse multicultural background, I am familiar with keeping an open mind and remaining approachable to lend a listening ear. I hope to plan events catered to fostering a more diverse community at UCL and celebrating the multiple cultures here for myself and others. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Having faced many of the same challenges moving away from home, I know the importance of strong support. My experience directly advocating for international student interests positions me to make the international student experience here welcoming and enriching. International students deserve effective advocates on campus and the resources necessary to thrive off campus. Stronger support, richer culture, better opportunities - with your vote, I’ll work tirelessly to make these changes a reality!

Having worked at a UK university consulting firm in Toronto, I understand the nerves of people struggling with the idea of moving abroad. It allowed me to gain insight into the concerns of prospective international students and better understand their needs. Furthermore, serving as Social Secretary of UCL's Kickboxing Society this year has given me experience in organising events, collaborating with a diverse set of people and fostering an inclusive community. I believe these experiences have given me the right amount of empathy to create a better environment for UCL international students.
Moving countries for university is daunting, and I understand firsthand the nerves at the beginning, especially regarding fitting in and making new friends. My goal would be to create a welcoming environment where international students feel at home. I would organise social events to help students integrate into university life while celebrating the diversity that makes UCL so special. Having navigated the challenges of adapting to a new country myself, I want to ensure that international students have access to the resources, guidance, and community support they need to thrive.
I believe students should vote for me because I will always prioritise their needs and listen to their suggestions. I'm an outgoing and approachable person, and I would hope everyone would feel safe voicing their concerns to me.

My global leadership and tech innovation experience contribute to an inclusive UCL.
I founded the UN-recognized E-Sleeping Bag project, raising £6,750 for homeless children through cross-cultural collaboration – proof I can unite diverse voices. I have designed Moony Slimo (Aniwow! 2022 Top Award), a mental health App showcasing my empathy. I’ll modernize our multicultural society with digital feedback systems and partner with Welfare Officers to enhance orientation support.
Let’s co-create intercultural mentorship events where every voice matters.
Vote Yiran Liu for actionable empathy!
I’ll focus on three priorities:
1. Enhance Orientation & Belonging

3. Bridge Cultures
Expand the Chinese New Year celebrations I organized into a UCL “World Festival” series, featuring workshops and career panels with international alumni.
I’ll ensure every int. student feels heard, supported, and celebrated. Let’s turn challenges into shared triumphs!
As a STEaPP student, I uniquely combine systems thinking and human-centred design to serve you:
