Sze Yiu (she/her)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Would love to take part in creating a welcoming community for the international student body here at UCL— as campaign representative, I aim to develop programs that respond to the needs of lesser-heard voices, by working closely with international student groups.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Previous leadership experience in various NSN society roles and RUMS badminton, as well as an enthusiasm for change.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am standing because I recognise that there is more that can be done for the international student body here at UCL, and I believe many from this community share this view as well—  in my capacity as Campaigns Representative I believe I am able to bring something to the table that will resonate with the plights of current international students.

Taseen Dhrubo Bakht (he/him)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to make all international students at UCL feel that they are in a home away from home. I arrived late to the UK as an international student myself, and I was taken back by how the previous committee held introductory sessions even with two attendees, to make us feel included. I hope to initiate campaigns for everyone to envision the UK as a possible home. I hope to help them connect with more people, to make new friends and to feel that they do belong. I hope to convince all the international students who may be crying in their dorm about what they had back home, that they have us.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I plan to initiate more campaigns to allow for cultural exchanges, through fun stalls, competitions, arts and crafts, and debates. I hope to bring more common interests onto the table and whether through subtitles or dubbing, to help students feel their countries being represented and seen by everyone. I hope to bring about more campaign collaborations with different societies, to make all members and non-members flock to the events to experience all the fun and engaging plans the committee would come up with. I also plan to stretch the exchanges towards a more academic perspective as well.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I have never set foot abroad. The UK was the first country I set foot in besides my own country. I know first hand how intense the homesickness can get and in the first term of my university, I didn't realize the plethora of resources and activities I could access to be more at home. Working with campaigns, I hope to properly and efficiently attract all students towards all events to feel more included, more seen and more understood.
