From the moment I watched the stunning fresher’s fair performance, I have been entranced by the Indian Dance Society and have been eager to get involved with everything it offers. It was the first society I joined (after an amazing Garba workshop!) and it has been my favourite society since. The Thursday dance classes are the best part of my week and getting involved in Naach has been one of the highlights of my first year at Uni (shoutout to my amazing team!!).
Having enjoyed the society so much, I am eager to directly contribute to the society next year as Welfare Officer, a role that aligns well with my skill set and interests. As someone who is extremely methodical and organised, I believe I would be able to plan and lead collaborations with other societies and universities in a way that showcases IDS at its best. Having been FYR for Economist's Society, I am also aware of the logistics behind such events. Moreover, having volunteered in the local community since the age of 14, I have a particular interest in outreach and would be eager to expand IDS's wider community engagement to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to feel the positive impact that dance can have.
I have really enjoyed being a member of IDS this year and I look forward to contributing as a committee member to a society I love so much. Thank you!
Hi everyone! I’m Sanjana and I would love to be your next welfare officer for Indian Dance society. Meeting so many new people through some of the weekly workshops to participating in the Christmas showcase, Naach, my experience thus far with IDS has been memorable, and one of my favourite parts of first year.
From choreographing for my school’s sixth form entertainment to helping out backstage at my dance school’s annual showcase of Bharatanatyam, I’ve learned to develop skills of organising my time and resources to best suit an event, given the timeline. Skills of adaptability and effective communication, such as rephrasing myself concisely to better express my point of view or changing up my style of teaching dance according to the experience of the dancers, are invaluable when transferred to assisting other members of the Indian dance Soc committee, especially in the run-up to events such as Naach.
As a bharatanatyam dancer joining Indian dance society earlier this year, I was excited yet hesitant to try different dance forms but the committee never failed to be encouraging and supportive. Now I can confidently say I’ve tried garba (despite the number of times I bumped into people!), lavani and so many more. Hence, I hope to help other members of the committee and society itself feel as welcome and supported as I did, as your next welfare officer of Indian dance society. Thank you!
Hi everyone!
I’m truly excited to apply for Welfare Officer of the UCL Indian Dance Society! Dance has always been a huge part of my life as I have been learning and performing both Bharatanatyam and Bollywood from a young age. Being a member of this society has been one of the highlights of my time at UCL and I want to share and celebrate the vibrancy and energy of Indian dance with the UCL community. I want to extend my love for dance by organising collaborations with other societies and creating volunteering opportunities, like hosting workshops and teaching at schools. This role perfectly combines my passion for dance with my desire to support others and my experience in teaching dance to younger students will allow me to execute this role effectively.
I’m eager to plan meaningful initiatives that bring our members closer together while also making a positive impact beyond our society. I want to create spaces where members feel supported and inspired, while also using dance as a way to uplift others in the wider community. My goal is to make Indian Dance Society an even more welcoming environment where every member feels heard, valued, and motivated to share their love for dance and I would love your support to help me do so!
