I would like to nominate myself as the Treasurer of the Indian Dance Society, as I will ensure that our society is financially secure, transparent, and well-managed. With my strong leadership, teamwork, and organisational skills, I am committed to handling the society’s funds efficiently while supporting its growth and creative ambitions. I will aim to:
- Maintain clear financial records, ensuring complete transparency in all transactions.
- Develop a structured budget to allocate funds effectively for rehearsals, events, and competitions.
- Ensure timely financial reporting, keeping committee members and society members informed about financial matters.
I feel it is pertinent to ensure responsible spending by evaluating expenses and prioritising essential costs. I would look to work collaboratively with the President and committee members to align financial decisions with the society’s vision. Advocating for cost-effective solutions, ensuring we maximise resources while maintaining high standards for events and performances, will remain a priority. As I did Just Bollywood this year, I have learned how to time manage well, organising my workload and stress. This I believe, will make me best suited for this role.
As an economics student, I’ve always been passionate about finance, and I really enjoy working with numbers. But beyond that, joining Indian Dance Society has been one of the best parts of my university experience. Before coming to UCL, I had done very little dance but through attending the weekly classes of IDS, I have developed a new passion for it, and it has helped me connect more with my culture. I would love to become treasurer of the society as it would help me connect two of my passions and stay involved in this amazing dance community.
As a member of the committee of IDS, I would be eager to develop it further using new ideas and events such as a dance competition in which members can help choreograph their own dances. Such events could also help us raise funding for the society.
I have had experience obtaining funding, issuing invoices and keeping stock of inventory for a charity. So, as treasurer, I’d bring my financial knowledge to ensure the society’s funds are managed efficiently, helping us organise new, engaging events. I also want to make sure we have the resources to continue growing and that we are able to give others the same opportunity to discover their love for dance.
Hey everyone, I’m Ananya, a second year Economics student, and I’m excited to be running for the IDS committee! I’m from Manchester and ethnically from Andhra Pradesh. Dance has always been an important part of my life- I have been training in Bharatanatyam for as long as I can remember. Coming to UCL and discovering IDS has opened so many opportunities to experiment with and become more confident in different styles. In fact, something that I love about dance is that there are so many sources of inspiration you can take and you can constantly learn and evolve as a dancer.
My first experience with IDS was the 2023 Christmas cultural showcase where I was given a crash course on Kathak by my choreo, who is now one of my closest friends! The community is so supportive and something I would love to be further involved in next year.
Taking on the role of treasurer would allow me to utilise my skills in numbers, budget management and communication, both with sponsors and other members of the committee. As current Director of Social Events of the UCL Economists’ Society, I understand the importance of a reliable treasury to facilitate both annual events and the introduction of new events, to expand the reach of the society.
Thank you!
