James Newbold-Comyns

Having joined ice club last year in my first year, the club has shaped my experience at UCL, and i want to do my part to support the club's future and ensure future students can benefit from an even better experience in years to come.

I've  thoroughly enjoyed being on committee this year, and helping to run the club. As treasurer I finalised the move to Lee Valley for our figure skaters, and also secured grant funding to buy new helmets, neck guards, shoulder pads, and pucks for our hockey players. Additionally, I have spent time cleaning  out storage space on campus, with the help of the SU, to reclaim space on campus for the club to store equipment. This year I have also been president of UCL skate club, as well as treasurer for ice club, and so I'm familiar with dealing with the Students Union as well as all of the rinks and organisations that ice club interacts with.

As president of ice club, I would extend ice hockey's game slots to allow us to run stopped-clock games, and work towards creating a C team for nationals, to ensure everyone can attend, and gets the most time playing possible. I would also look to invest further in new kit, to expand the number of people the club can accommodate, as a lack of available kit has been a constant issue this year. I would also ensure that figure skating remains at Lee Valley, and continue to support future showcases.
