Grace Brady

I would love to be considered for the role of 1s captain in the 25/26 season as I would aim to continue building the uplifting community we have built over the last season. Despite limited scoreline success on the pitch, I believe that the community that Sophie, Katie and Kevin, among the other girls, have built is truly unparalleled.  I believe that despite relegation, UCLWHC 1s have so much more to give, and I would cherish the chance to lead this rebuild next season. Despite following 1s.are.fun for nearly 18 months and being in preseason groups before my first year, I would like to address that I have only played university hockey this year. In truth, I was terrified of the social aspects and that I wasn’t good enough for the standard, but I think the fact that I am now here six months later applying for the role of captain shows my passion and commitment to the club. I would like to foster a similar environment for new members of the team so they feel like they are welcome. Now, this wouldn’t be a manifesto without some CV explanation. Alongside being “a weapon in midfield”, I believe I possess the skills to take on the organisational aspects of being captain. I was 1XI captain at school, alongside being a prefect. I have held a corporate job whilst at UCL, and I am also a qualified hockey coach who has taught PE in a school. Without stating the obvious as well, I am a bit of a grandma, but I aim to ensure that there will be socials for everyone, including myself.
