Hey everyone! My name is Kate and some of you may know me from my weekly newsletters that end up in your inboxes every Sunday, and my presentation ‘Women In Art’ at the start of the year. This year I have been GenFem’s Secretary and I have adored being part of an incredible committee and an incredible year at GenFem - I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have.
I am running for president of GenFem, as I’d love to continue to be part of something that is so strong and will always remain necessary; in particular I want to continue efforts to amplify our much needed voice on campus, develop our GenFem community further, and host more amazing events that are made by and for our members- while obviously keeping our much loved discussion and debate meetings going.
The knowledge I have gained from working with the talented members of our committee this year have equipped me with the experience necessary to facilitate this continued improvement of GenFem.
It has already been a complete honour to be part of the amazing change that has happened in the last year of GenFem, including the revival of a fabulous blog, and many more guest speaker events and collaborations, and I would adore the opportunity to be the president of GenFem this coming year to continue the work. I can’t wait for what we have ahead of us <3

In my 2nd year at UCL I was on the GenFem committee GenFem as BAME rep, and this year I'm on my year abroad, so if you don't recognise me, it's because I'm in Madrid right now! Being on GenFem committee has been one of the highlights of my time at UCL - I've always been passionate about speaking up for equal rights and intersectional feminism, and joining a community of likeminded people where we can share our views and experiences has been such a fantastic opportunity; I've learned so much and met some of my favourite people here. I want to make sure the society is as accepting and welcoming as it was when I first joined, and I'm open to hearing criticism and working towards improving the society as I want to make it the best it can possibly be. I've had experience on committee, working in a team organising events and fundraisers. I've also had experience in leadership, as a producer of GendFilm (FilmSoc's short with an all-women/trans/nb crew), in which I led a diverse team of people and helped everyone to shine as best they can in their role. Producing brought many of the same challenges as you may expect from running a society: making sure everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities, working on tight deadlines, welfare, and communicating with a large team. I loved producing and I would love to use some of the skills I learned from it to run GenFem. My main goals for the society are diversity, inclusion, and intersectionalism; GenFem should represent YOU!

I’m really excited to run for President of the Gender and Feminism Society! This society has been such a great space for discussion, learning, and meeting like-minded people, and I’d love the opportunity to help shape it over the next year. As a regular member, I’ve really enjoyed getting involved—whether it was giving a talk on Marxist feminism or speaking at our collaboration with the LGBTQ+ Network about queer stories and figures from the ancient world. I’m passionate about exploring gender and feminism from different perspectives, and I want to make sure we continue having thoughtful, open conversations where everyone feels heard.
My degree and previous experience would also help me in this role. As a law student, I’m especially interested in how gender and feminism intersect with the law, both historically and today, shaping people’s rights and experiences across different societies. I also have a love for ancient and classical literature, which ties into my interest in how gender roles and identities have evolved. One of the things I really admire about this society is its focus on intersectionality, and I want to continue that by looking at how feminist movements across the world are shaped by social, political, and economic factors.
I also have experience running a society as President of my Sixth Form’s Feminism Society. That role gave me the skills to organise events, facilitate discussions, and make sure members felt engaged and involved.
