I want to push Film Soc into the future next year and increase the opportunities and studio facilities to a size which reflects the community:
- I plan to expand our studio facilities. The original Film Soc studio was demolished in 2004, and even though the society gained recognition after Emma Thomas mentioned us at the BAFTAs, we’ve been left with a small, basic space behind a cafe. I’ve found an exciting opportunity to partner with studio spaces 7 min away, once owned by Warner Bros. Using the excitement around the society, and the funds already generated from the sales from UCL’s Film Archive, now is the perfect time for this vital change which will allow more members to get involved.
- There aren't enough opportunities for casual members who love film but don't want to join a Term Film crew. I will organize weekly fun events like quizzes and movie clubs, and hold regular workshops with industry professionals to instruct use of the society's excellent equipment. My goal is to make sure casual film lovers feel welcome in Film Soc!
- Did you know you can get £500 for your own project? Or borrow the camera used for Interstellar and Wonder Woman for free? Many members aren't aware of these opportunities or how easy it is to access the resources on offer. My goal is to make the process of sharing these resources clearer and more accessible to everyone in the society.
