Peter Nunez

Hey everyone! My name’s Peter, and I’m a third-year Economics student, currently studying abroad at UCLA. I’ll be coming home to UCL soon, and I’m feeling ambitious about what I can do as your future Welfare Officer.

During my time at UCL, I always knew that I had a home at Filsoc and I want to pay that forward to others next year.

My goals on committee can be summed up with inclusivity. Whether you’re joining in Freshers week or halfway through Term 2, I want to create a place where anyone can feel welcome, safe, and like part of the family. I’ve recently become an active member of 4 Filipino societies at UCLA and coming in as a third year, I know firsthand how hard it can be!If you vote for me, I plan to be:

  • A counsellor to everyone in Filsoc, whether it’s advice or just to vibe
  • The person you reach out to if you’re going to an event solo
  • There to listen if something is bothering you, with no judgement
  • The person to help you out when your social battery is low

I also aim to make welfare and inclusivity a bigger focus in Filsoc. Whether that’s improving the fam system (I’ll steal ideas from UCLA they do it so well), running study events, creating mental health resources, or just having chill hangouts like movie nights as a break from the nights out, I want Filsoc to be your perfect third place.

Uni life can be stressful, so I’m here to make Filsoc your safe space where you always have someone to lean on. Thanks for considering me, and I can’t wait to see you in September!

Yngie Buelvo

Hi everyone! I'm Yngie, a first-year Linguistics student and Bicolana running to be Filipino society's next Welfare officer! I'd love to do my part in making returning and future members feel like they have another family here in Filsoc, the same way the current committee have made me feel :p

As Welfare officer, I would be readily available to discuss issues/provide support for our members online (I basically live on instagram and tiktok). It is so vital to have a support system during your time at uni when there are so many factors which could affect your mental health!

While I can give members a safe space to talk about the serious stuff, I'm also always down to yap regardless of the subject! I'm someone with a lot of interests, including manga and anime, musicals, playing instruments, collecting, gaming... to put it simply, I don't judge! No matter what niche you're into, I'd love to hear about it and will always encourage others to embrace the things they love <3

Being born and raised in London, I'd also use my familiarity with the city to help newcomers settle in - moving here can be daunting but Filsoc is a great opportunity to make friends and explore new places or activities! If voted in, I would love to continue the family system and organise more events which help bring members closer together. Even though I'm only first-year, I just know that the moments I've spent with filsoc will be some of the defining memories of my uni years :)
