Filipino Society: President

Magandang araw Filsoc! I'm Michael Angelo (you can call me Michael), 1st-year Maths w/ Econ student. As an active member of Filsoc for the past year, all the memories and friends I've made along the way have left an indelible impression on me. I wish to share this excitement with the rest of you all, whether returning members or new. 

A few of my ideas are: 

• organising cultural and social events, encouraging everyone to explore Filipino culture or reconnect with their roots. Examples include: boodlefights (for the big back's like myself), karaoke (for those with the singing genes, unfortunately unlike myself), game nights, etc
• continuing the legacy of my predecessors; I'll continue working with our connections and make new ones in hopes of bringing more opportunities and variety to our members
• working with different societies and universities to bring exciting events and socials in accordance with Filipino Society's constitution
• creating a safe space and welcoming environment for all - whether you are a fresher, postgraduate, interested in FIlipino culture: you are all welcome!

Having volunteered for my local community several times (NCS, DofE Gold) and with previous leadership experience (Head Boy in sixth form), I am optimistic I will be able to deliver results. In my experience of being able to balance a part-time job, uni and a social life - rest assured, I will be able to handle all affairs and issues you throw at me.

Filsoc is the perfect society, it is my home away from home. My aim is to continue to provide a welcoming and joyful vibe to this community, so people feel comfortable settling into uni or making new friends!

My goal for filsoc is to strengthen the relationships we have with each other, through events. I hope to work with the committee to bring traditional filipino events, with our own twists. We can count on the traditional sport of karaoke to have multiple appearances,  with mukbangs, sport related and DIY events. We might see some collabs in our future... These are only my initial ideas, and if you guys place your trust in me to become your future president, I promise to hear what the people want, and make it happen.

A president is only as strong their people, and I believe I’m a great team player because we’re all in this together, go wildcats! As a former volleyball player, I know what it takes to be a team player. You can’t have a successful spike without the foundations of a good receive and a lovely set. I know I have big shoes to fill, but take a chance on me and I might grow to be 6 foot, maybe I can even be the next tiny giant.

In all seriousness, if you put your trust in me to be your future president, I pinky promise I’ll do my best to listen to everyone’s needs and make them a reality.
