I think fencing gets a bad rep as this stuffy, boring, highbrow sport. People might even think you’re a bit odd and probably not very athletic if you pick it as your sport. At the moment of writing this, the W1 team are looking to face Nottingham in the national semifinals on Wednesday. I kind of feel like I got thrown back into fencing this year but the nostalgia of being on a team again reminds me how this sport is nothing if not dynamic, emotional, and thrilling. Within the W1 team, I have met some of the most determined, compassionate, certainly odd (in a good way) but definitely athletic women I have had the privilege of being on a team with. I am running for this position because I want to push and support the W1 team to continue achieving incredible results and be the best athletes they can be. As captain, I want to showcase this drive and spirit, reminding everyone that we are taking this seriously and that they should take us, and fencing, seriously. But the most important thing is that everybody has fun together as a team. Because winning is really fun.
