What makes a society worthwhile? For me, it would be the events, support, and sense of community provided. That is why I am running for Head of Events this year to build on the incredible opportunities available within the society and create a packed calendar for next year. I was fortunate enough this year to take part in a range of embassy visits, the model “North Sea Neighbours” conference as well as the “Entente Cordiale Challenge”, demonstrating my active participation in the society. My aim is to continue providing these opportunities but also expand the events horizon, bringing in more talks from EISPS alumni, discussions on current affairs with experts as well as talks from 4th years to 1st and 2nd years discussing the year abroad.
As a current 1st year, one of the events that really made me feel part of the department was the welcome party on the portico steps at the start of the year and this is something that I am very keen to continue and expand on, introducing these large, year group-wide events more frequently throughout the year.
Another of my core aims is to provide events tailored towards future careers that EISPS students would be interested in. Evening talks with career professionals would prove extremely insightful in helping us firstly choose a career path but then also the path that we could potentially follow to achieve this.
If you like the sound of even more events delving into the areas touched on above then make sure to vote for me!
