Hi!
I’m Aglaé (yes, a bit tricky to pronounce, but I promise I won’t be offended if you get it wrong), a first-year ISPS student studying Full Econ and Mandarin.
I’m excited to run for Treasurer of the EISPS Society—ready to keep our finances in check, make the most of our budget, and ensure we can fund the best possible events for our community.
As First-Year Rep, I got a behind-the-scenes look at how the society operates—and trust me, it’s not just booking rooms and sending emails (though there’s plenty of that). I’ve seen the importance of good financial management in running a successful society, and I’m ready to take on the challenge.
As Treasurer, I’d ensure our budget is spent wisely, making sure we have the funds to organise fantastic events—from embassy visits (yes, I know you love them) and career talks with alumni and professionals to social gatherings that bring us together. I’d also work on securing sponsorships and funding opportunities to maximise what we can offer you.
Beyond just balancing the books, I want to make sure our society remains accessible, engaging, and beneficial to everyone. A well-managed budget means better events, more opportunities, and a stronger sense of community.
I’m confident that, as Treasurer, I can bring organisation, responsibility, and just the right amount of enthusiasm to make this year one to remember.

When I applied for European Social and Political Studies, I knew that I wanted a degree that offered a plethora of choices in multiple fields of study. With an interest in history, politics and languages, this degree was the perfect fit for me. What I was not aware of before university was the incredible support network offered by the EISPS society. Organising multiple events, such as embassy visits and the Polyglot Cafe, allows us to explore our interests further outside of university and meet like-minded people along the way. As treasurer, I would like to continue the legacy left behind by past leaders of the society. Previously, I have been in a leadership role as Deputy Head Boy in my sixth form. Most notably, I organised the first culture day. This included meetings with the school board, funding it through various campaigns and leading the school events for the week. Looking beyond the useful skills I have developed through this experience, I got to share my love for different cultures, including my own, and create a nurturing environment for future discussions. The responsibility of organising the funds for culture day, prom and other school events is suited for the requirements needed as treasurer. This is supported by my A* in Maths A-level. The most important aspect of this role for me is helping the society continue to support our members by ensuring the continuation of these immersive events.
Having been a member of the EISPS department for the past academic year, I had the wonderful opportunity to experience a variety of events ranging from embassy visits to talks with the European Union, solely due to this society. Being a member of the committee which organises such events for all members of this course would be a privilege, allowing for more and more people to experience the same events as I did.
By being Treasurer, I would take great pride in organising the society's finances, while supporting the President in every act they take. It is a position of great privilege and responsibility, which requires a great deal of organisation and commitment - two skills I believe I exhibit to a strong level. Having organised the team invited be a panel on the Languages Day panel organised by the National Consortium for Languages Education, I demonstrated the organisation and team leadership skills required to undertake the role of Treasurer in this society. Through my involvement with the Entente Cordiale Challenge with a select few others, I showed not only my levels of commitment by completing a 15 page report at the same time as my studies, but also reinforced my communication and team work skills, both of which will be necessary when organising a society in which hundreds of people will be involved and will require a small team to run.
Being Treasurer will allow me to hone all of these skills, while giving back to the society that has given me so many opportunities.
Hello, my name is Vítek, and I am a third-year ESPS dual-degree student from Prague. (No, I’m not from France although I speak French and even my scarf isn’t from France as many claim). Specialising in Full Economics, I enjoy working with numbers and Excel spreadsheets and would love to apply these skills more directly than through the algebra of expenditure functions of a Hicksian demand, whatever that means*.
I also want to strengthen the presence of dual-degree students in the society, since we join UCL already specialised and with a weaker bond to the EISPS department.
To attract new members and increase the value of society membership, I will work with the President and the committee to organise CATERED embassy visites. Two years in France taught me that true diplomacy with limited budget can only succeed through good gastronomy.
*If this ever proves useful to the society, I will have learnt this by the time I become Treasurer as the exam is in May.
