Aglaé Fricoteaux

Hi!

I’m Aglaé (yes, a bit tricky to pronounce, but I promise I won’t be offended if you get it wrong), a first-year ISPS student studying Full Econ and Mandarin.

I’m excited to run for President of the EISPS Society—ready to unite our cohort, keep everyone in the loop, and, of course, make sure we all survive (and maybe even enjoy) the year ahead.

As First-Year Rep, I got a behind-the-scenes look at how things run—and trust me, it’s not just booking rooms and sending emails (though there’s a fair bit of that). I’ve seen the real weight of responsibility that comes with leading a society like EISPS, and strangely enough, I still want to do it.

As President, I’d listen to and represent your ideas while fostering a real sense of community—because, let’s face it, university is far better when you actually know the people around you. I’d organise a fantastic mix of events, from embassy visits (yes, I know you love them) and career talks with alumni and professionals to social gatherings.

I also want to introduce diverse events reflecting our department’s specialisations, ensuring everyone finds something engaging and valuable. My goal? To make our society not just useful, but genuinely enjoyable.

I’m confident that, as President, I can bring positive energy, an open ear, and just the right amount of enthusiasm to make this year one to remember.

Vote for me—because EISPS deserves a year as brilliant as its students!

Emilia Dunn

Hi! I'm Emilia and I would like to be your EISPS Society President. I have absolutely loved the community that EISPS has brought me and I would love to continue building that as your society president! It has been a wonderful year meeting such a wonderful group of people with such varied interests, something which I think is so unique to EISPS. As your president I would like to diversify the events and activities offered to represent all the specialisms and interests, so that everybody has an opportunity to attend something that is beneficial for them. Getting the opportunity to attend events such as the visit to the Argentinian embassy have been so beneficial to me, and I'd love to continue on with this whilst also incorporating other specialism and interests. I'd also love to add more of a social aspect and focus! I think it would be fantastic to add more pub socials and movie nights into the calendar so everyone can get to know each other in a low pressure environment. I have really enjoyed organising EISPS get togethers this year and would love to be able to continue with this in a more official role next year. I'd also love to introduce more interaction between year groups, both for informal academic support, but also to build a wider community for everyone. Having led society's at school and loved the experience, it's something I'm really keen to do again at uni level, especially in such a fantastic and diverse community!

Becky Weldon

I would love to be president of the EISPS Society because I am deeply passionate about fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for students in this field. As president, I would strive to create opportunities for members to engage with key political, social, and cultural issues through events such as embassy visits, guest lectures, and social gatherings, providing a platform for intellectual exchange and networking. I believe my leadership skills, enthusiasm for international relations, and commitment to building connections within the university will allow me to represent the society effectively and make a lasting impact on the student experience. By cultivating a space where students can explore diverse perspectives and deepen their understanding of global issues, I aim to enhance both academic and social engagement within the department. I would also like to use this opportunity to give back to the society, which has already offered me so many opportunities to enhance my skills and engage within the field.

A programme shaped by you, organised by us, and enjoyed by all - that is what my presidency of EISPS society has to offer.

In becoming president, I will ensure that we continue to host diverse events to supplement the studies of EISPS. Our aim? To expand UCL students’ horizons: not just regarding academic interest, but with the goal of becoming more informed and involved citizens. Consulting current members from the outset, the society will broach topics from human rights to the value of languages - though ongoing feedback will constantly shape the programme. After all, students from all departments are welcome to join, and every member deserves to have their interests represented. As such, we can maximise the benefit of being a niche, smaller society by creating a more personalised timetable to directly match your desires.

Another objective that I will pursue is greater integration of the EISPS society into the University of London’s network of sister colleges. With seventeen member institutions, we are uniquely placed to create regular, inter-collegiate events. This would allow us to provide more ambitious, further reaching events making use of combined funds, translating into greater opportunities to widen our understanding of the world.

This president will open the door to previously antithetical benefits: both those of a small society with a tailored programme; and those of the larger societies with more influence.
