Candidates

Akhilesh Sivananthan

I am eager to take on a key role in the Engineering Society, building on my past experience as Projects Executive to drive impactful initiatives and support the committee in delivering exceptional events. Having successfully organized and managed large-scale projects (e.g. Engineering Ball 2024, London 2050, BPuzzled Hackathon), I am prepared to take on greater responsibilities, ensuring our society remains one of the best on campus.
My leadership roles in the Energy Society have equipped me with strong networking and sponsorship acquisition skills, allowing me to liaise effectively with large organizations to secure funding and support. I understand the importance of fostering corporate relationships and ensuring long-term partnerships that benefit our members.
Additionally, my time on the UCL Racing team has strengthened my teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Working under pressure and adapting quickly to challenges has prepared me to take on a leadership role that requires both strategic planning and hands-on execution.
In any position, I will be committed to mentoring new committee members, ensuring smooth collaboration across teams, and helping deliver innovative events and projects. My goal is to elevate the society’s impact, strengthen industry connections, and create an engaging environment for all members.
I am excited about the opportunity to contribute my skills and experience to continue the society’s success and bring fresh ideas to the team.

Thea Haugan

Hello all, fellow engineers, and future corporate sponsors who haven't yet discovererd the joy of giving us money! I'm Thea, doing Biochemical Engineering minoring in Finance & Accounting, and I know you're thinking "Another engineer who's good with numbers? Groundbreaking."

But let me assure you, I can charm as well as I can calculate

  • Proven fundraiser: Co-hosted the annual Sunburst Muscular Dystrophy Concert (Singapore), raising £170,000 from donor contributions & ticket sales.
  • Industry Experience: Led media campaigns reaching 200k+ professionals on LinkedIn for DNV Singapore
  • Creative Communicator: Professional actor (repped by a big 4 UK agency) that now focuses on film production, and secured funding for my Edinburgh Fringe musical, earning "Best Marketer" award!
  • Prev. Deputy Head of School & President of Science Faculty

If I can convince people to part with their cash after hearing me sing ABBA hits as a singing server at "Mamma Mia! The Party", imagine what I can do for our society's sponsorship budget. Fluent in English, Norwegian, and corporate-speak, I could be the triple threat UCLES needs!

Emil Ching

I am standing for this position as I want to make an impact on the engineering students at UCL and the engineering society. Having attended multiple events of the UCL Engineering Society, I recognised the importance of having strong industry connections, as it provides meaningful experiences and strong connections for students when they look for internships and graduate and enter the job market, be it in engineering, finance, or other industries.

The connections that the Engineering society has with companies thus allows us to host and run many events that can add to our student body's CV's and better equip them for the future. Receiving sponsorship from these businesses gives us the opportunity to broaden our scope of events, and hence we can reach more students in the engineering faculty and  improves both the current wellbeing and interest of students in the society.

Thus, I think that being a sponsorship executive is a position that allows me to implement changes and improvements to the Engineering Society and our members. Furthermore, it allows me to improve my networking skills so that in the future I could run for higher, more important positions.

Maanvendra Kothari

I am excited to run for the position of Sponsorship Executive because I am passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for the Engineering Society and its members. I believe that strong industry connections and sponsorships are the backbone of a thriving society—they enhance our events, provide career opportunities for students, and elevate our impact within the university and beyond.

As your Sponsorship Executive, I will:

• Proactively Build Relationships: Leverage my communication skills and proactive approach to establish and maintain strong partnerships with companies, ensuring long-term support.

• Secure Valuable Opportunities: Focus on securing sponsorships that directly benefit members, such as funding for events, workshops, and career development programs.

• Enhance Member Experiences: Ensure that sponsorships translate into tangible benefits, such as networking events, internships, and resources that help engineering students grow academically and professionally.

With my dedication, relationship-building skills, and commitment to the society’s success, I am confident I can deliver impactful results.

Ng Ez-ven

I want to run for the role of Sponsorship Executive to develop myself beyond academics and build skills that will help me personally and professionally. This role is a great opportunity to connect with industry professionals and secure sponsorships that create more opportunities for everyone in the society.
By bringing in sponsorships, I want to help fund better events, workshops, and networking opportunities so that more students can gain exposure to the industry and access career-building resources. I also believe that strong partnerships with companies can lead to internship opportunities, which would be a huge benefit for students looking to get real-world experience.
I would also like to use this opportunity for my self-development by improving my communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Taking on this role would push me to step outside my comfort zone, work with industry professionals, and develop practical skills that will be valuable in my future.
I am an organized and proactive person, and I am confident that this will help me build relationships with sponsors. I hope to help ensure that the Engineering Society has sufficient resources to organise future events and initiatives that add value to its members.

Prisha Vadhel

As Sponsorship Executive for the Engineering Society, I would bring extensive experience in securing sponsorships and building strong industry connections. Last summer, I completed an internship at a prosthetics firm in India, where my primary responsibility was reaching out to organizations for collaboration and funding. I successfully engaged potential sponsors, gaining valuable insight into managing industry relationships and securing financial support for projects.

In my gap year, I further honed my networking skills by attending over 15 industry events, which led to valuable work experience and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, in my current role as first-year representative for Hindu Society, I have actively worked with companies to secure sponsorships and collaborations. For example, we are set to partner with Accenture and Peloton for upcoming cultural workshops, which demonstrates my ability to align with corporate goals and secure meaningful partnerships.

As Sponsorship Executive, I am eager to apply these skills to the Engineering Society, working to enhance industry engagement and create impactful career opportunities for our members. My experience in securing sponsorships and building lasting relationships with industry partners will allow me to bring valuable resources to the society and ensure that our members have access to career-focused events and networking opportunities.
