Candidates

Lian Neha Holden
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

What I hope to achieve if elected:

  1. Financial support -> Improving scholarship and bursary awareness for WP students by training volunteer financial and budgeting mentors from both non-WP and WP backgrounds.
  2. Stronger Alumni Educational Network –> Establishing a formal and central alumni network to provide mentorship, career guidance, and post-university education opportunities, promising long-last support and value from degrees at UCL.
  3. Improved electronics support loans -> Capacity building for digital literacy via workshops and student networks, and longer laptop loans.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

During my Impartial Chair training, I examined critically the case of Northern Ireland, specifically how its history of conflict was represented in Schools. I was able to talk to students about what they learnt in school and at home. I appreciated being able to actively listen to what concerns they had and how they saw themselves within this history.

Curriculum World Change Café, I chaired the discussion on how UCL can provide pedagogical support and attractive educational offers. In this role, I had the chance to hear difficulties faced by staff in promoting education at a higher level.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am passionate in supporting students throughout their education, both before, during and after. My intention is to enhance financial awareness and support, improve alumni connections and create a more friendly electronics loan scheme. I believe that good and inclusive education is multifaceted and goes beyond the lecture hall and exam centres. It extends to sufficient study spaces, affordable food, wider university funding, strong sense of community. By voting for me, you would join me in providing holistic support centring all of our voices.

Julia Roquette (she/her)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I will push for real improvements in areas I’ve already identified, such as integrating year abroad options into more courses, expanding career support—especially in social sciences—and increasing opportunities for language learning as part of degree programs. UCL has the potential to offer a more inclusive and well-rounded academic experience, and I want to ensure every student has access to these opportunities. By working closely with students and faculty, I hope to make meaningful progress in these areas and create lasting change that benefits future UCL students.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Having studied in multiple education systems and lived in different countries, I understand how different academic structures impact students. I hope to use this experience distinguish areas of improvement in the education system across UCL. As an Academic Rep, I have experience advocating for students and navigating UCL’s decision-making processes. My involvement in athletic and academic societies has strengthened my teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. I’m committed to making UCL more inclusive, ensuring all students receive the academic and extracurricular support they need.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am passionate about making UCL a place where every student can thrive academically and beyond. Having experienced different education systems, I recognize the gaps in academic support, accessibility, and student opportunities. I’m committed to making real, lasting changes that improve the student experience for everyone.

  • Most importantly, I bring care and commitment to you—having faced similar challenges, I want to listen to your concerns and turn your suggestions into real, practical changes
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

To many of us, education at UCL is so much more than sitting in lectures. As someone who has been an Academic Rep of a small department throughout my time in UCL, I also believe students from every department deserve to have their voices heard equally. If successfully elected, I will:

  • Advocate for a more flexible and student-centered academic experience
  • Push for stronger career development opportunities
  • Improve study environments
  • Commit to listening and acting on student concerns

Instagram @vote4arabella –I'd love to talk to you about how I want to achieve these goals and hear your input!

Ideas:

  1. Maintain successful legacy improvements and identify areas where revamps are necessary;

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

There are three important factors that determine the quality of a school (Forbes, 2009), namely: (i) talents, (ii) investment, and (iii) autonomy. A global class university should have investment, management, and operations that are oriented towards the welfare of students, researchers, and teachers. For UCL, I believe investments in infrastructures and academic-related decisions shall be accommodative to the needs of UCL’s diverse academic community. My achievement goals are designed on this backdrop and I aim to serve the Education Officer role as an advocate for the school's talents.

Shuyun Yan (She/ Her)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I will leverage my expertise as a UCL scholar and international educator to drive transformative initiatives. I will champion student-centered frameworks bridging academic rigor with real-world application, foster cross-cultural partnerships between UCL and Asian institutions, and advocate for innovative pedagogy integrating technology and evidence-based practices. Additionally, I will prioritize staff-student collaboration through mentorship programs, positioning UCL as a hub of academic excellence, global citizenship, and sustainable impact.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

If elected, I will bring global expertise, strategic vision, and intercultural fluency from six years in China’s international education sector and UCL scholarship. I’ve designed curricula for 1,200+ students across 15+ nationalities, hold a Cambridge DELTA, and implemented AI-driven teaching (40% engagement increase, 2022). Recognized by the British Council China (2023) for policy work on equitable education, I excel at bridging Western and Asian systems. Fluent in Mandarin, I will champion tech-integrated pedagogy and mentorship programs, enhancing UCL’s global impact.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Vote for a leader who blends frontline teaching with cutting-edge research. With six years shaping curricula for 1,200+ students across 15+ nationalities in China and UCL’s rigorous scholarship, I bridge classroom realities with institutional strategy. My AI-enhanced teaching boosted engagement by 40%, and my British Council-recognized advocacy promotes inclusive, global education. Fluent in Mandarin and Western academia, I’ll expand UCL’s partnerships, amplify student voices, and champion skills for a digital, intercultural world—turning insights into real impact.

What I do have is a passion for making your educational experience as tailored to your needs as possible, ensuring your money and time are well spent at UCL.  I promise I am someone who listens and executes her plans promptly - if you put your trust in me, I shall deliver :3

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

🧑‍🏫 Take the Module YOU Want - Increase capacity for the most popular modules. Your education, your choice!

🎓 Scholarship Finder - Find every funding opportunity around the world. Discover incredible unadvertised opportunities.

🍱  40% Off Local Restaurants - As President of Food Soc I am in conversations with five restaurants considering a 40% discount to UCL students. Affordable, tasty food to fuel your studies.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

⭐️ President of Food Soc - I revived Food Soc, running several sold out events in the last two months alone. This proves I can deliver real results - fast. As Education Officer, I will bring that same energy to an academic experience that matches the fees we pay.

👩‍🏫 Lead Academic Rep – I don’t just raise concerns - I get results. I secured reforms to next year’s History modules by taking student feedback to directly improve content & assessment.

💯 Academic success isn’t just about how hard you work - but whether you have the environment to do your best. For too long the role of Education Officer has separated education & student experience. I promise to change that with my leadership as Food Soc President & proven track record of delivering change as Lead Academic Rep.

🩵 I am compassionate & dependable - I will make sure everyone feels uplifted & empowered. If you ever need someone to talk to or advocate for you, I’m here.

I have worked for TfL & Disney, & interned at the UN. Now I want to work for you!

UCL students deserve a fair, accessible, and high-quality education that truly supports their needs. If elected, I will:

  • Fight for students balancing work and studies by pushing for better financial aid, fairer assessments, and proper access to essential module resources.
  • Make UCL more accessible with stronger financial guidance, targeted support for first-gen and international students, and better outreach so underrepresented applicants see UCL as an option!!
  • Improve study spaces with more quiet zones (the SC is a ZOO atp xxx), better group areas, and extended library hours.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  • Proven student advocate – I’ve represented students on UCL’s Student Success Panel & Podcast, The 93% Club, & the SU's Volunteering Working Group, ensuring real student voices shape policy!
  • Commitment to accessibility and fairness – I know the struggle of balancing work and study & will push for academic policies that truly support students.
  • Welcoming and approachable – I’m (very) chatty, and always open to hearing student concerns!

UCL should be a place where your background doesn’t limit your opportunities! I’ll push for fairer assessments, better study spaces, and real support for working students - policies that will genuinely improve student life! No one should have to choose between their degree & financial stability—I’ll make funding simpler, fairer, and more accessible!

For years, I’ve worked to break down barriers, create opportunities, & advocate for studentsnow I'd love to do it for all of UCL.

If you want an Education Officer who understands your struggles and delivers real change, I'm ready to make it happen!
