Hi, I’m Betty, and I’m excited to be running for Social Secretary!
You might already recognise me as the second-year rep for the society, and now I’m ready to step up. With my strong understanding of the society and background in events management, I’m confident I’m the right fit for this role.
I’m approachable, friendly, and always up for a laugh! As Social Sec, my aim is to continue organising inclusive socials for all personality types. We'll keep the favourites like pub nights, quizzes, and donut socials, but I’d love to collaborate with other societies to bring fresh, exciting events.
In addition to the essential humanitarian events, I’m passionate about building a closer community through regular socials. Mental health and well-being are a big focus for me, so I’d love to team up with the welfare officer to host wholesome events that promote good mental health. Some ideas include:
- Nature walks or weekend hikes
- Craft nights (maybe sip and paints!)
- Study sessions (snacks included!)
- Comedy club outings
- Coffee shop meet-ups
- Cinema trips
- Board game nights
I also want to build on the success of Disaster Dribblers (our social football team) by signing us up for more tournaments and organising regular kickabouts for all skill levels.
I’m excited for the opportunity to make the DRR society even more social and inclusive. So If you like what you hear, vote for me!
I’m applying for the role of Social Secretary because I believe that building strong connections within a society is just as important as the work we do in it. The Disaster Risk Reduction Society brings together people who are passionate about tackling global challenges, but I want to make sure we also have a space to relax, connect, and enjoy being part of this community.
Through my BSc in Global Humanitarian Studies, I’ve learned that resilience is about more than just responding to disasters—it’s about building strong, supportive communities. I believe that feeling like you belong is essential, especially in stressful or high-pressure environments. I’d love to bring that sense of connection and energy to this society by organizing fun, inclusive events where we can unwind and bond outside of the usual academic work.
If elected, I would love to plan a mix of social and networking events—from casual meetups and themed socials to panel discussions and collaborations with other societies. Whether it’s a pub night, a film screening, or a resilience-building workshop, my goal is to make sure everyone feels connected, valued, and excited to be part of this group.
Ultimately, a society is only as strong as the people within it, and I’d love the chance to help bring us all closer together.
