I’m applying for the role of Social Secretary because I believe that building strong connections within a society is just as important as the work we do in it. The Disaster Risk Reduction Society brings together people who are passionate about tackling global challenges, but I want to make sure we also have a space to relax, connect, and enjoy being part of this community.
Through my BSc in Global Humanitarian Studies, I’ve learned that resilience is about more than just responding to disasters—it’s about building strong, supportive communities. I believe that feeling like you belong is essential, especially in stressful or high-pressure environments. I’d love to bring that sense of connection and energy to this society by organizing fun, inclusive events where we can unwind and bond outside of the usual academic work.
If elected, I would love to plan a mix of social and networking events—from casual meetups and themed socials to panel discussions and collaborations with other societies. Whether it’s a pub night, a film screening, or a resilience-building workshop, my goal is to make sure everyone feels connected, valued, and excited to be part of this group.
Ultimately, a society is only as strong as the people within it, and I’d love the chance to help bring us all closer together.
