I am standing for President of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarianism Society because I am passionate about building resilience, fostering global awareness, and empowering students to take action in humanitarian efforts. Growing up in Mozambique and Malawi, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impacts of natural disasters and the urgent need for proactive disaster risk reduction. This has driven me to advocate for sustainable, community-led solutions that prioritize preparedness and long-term resilience.
At UCL, I want to create an inclusive and dynamic society that educates, engages, and inspires students from all backgrounds to get involved in humanitarianism. I will work to expand collaborations with experts, NGOs, and researchers to provide insightful talks, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities.
I believe disaster risk reduction should not just be about policy discussions—it should be interactive and action-driven. That’s why I want to introduce volunteering initiatives and skill-building sessions that equip students with practical knowledge.
If elected, I will ensure this society remains a hub for learning, advocacy, and meaningful impact. By bringing students together, we can drive change, raise awareness, and contribute to a more resilient world.

I'm honoured to have contributed to the Disaster Risk Reduction Society as Publications Officer this year. From putting together the UN Workshop Report to helping shape our space at UCL, I've loved every opportunity to contribute to fostering innovation, collaboration and meaningful conversation. As President, I will strive to build on these foundations and create a society that leaves a lasting legacy within UCL.
With six years of experience in youth advocacy, sustainability, and humanitarian work— including developing a climate education app, For Planet, and serving as a Young Member of Parliament — I am eager to lead our society into its next chapter.
As President, I’ll focus on:
- Opening doors to volunteering, skill-building, and learning opportunities in the humanitarian sector.
- Creating an inclusive, accessible space where every student feels valued.
- Expanding our online presence through LinkedIn and Instagram posts showcasing members’ work and connecting them to opportunities.
- And of course ... lots of socials for us to get together and unwind - think coffee/ tea and paints, pub trips and more.
I pride myself on being a proactive leader, who strives to create an environment where everyone can thrive, learn and grow together.
I believe that as a society we can build a community that's both impactful and fun, building your social network and giving you the perfect all-round space within UCL.

Hello! My name is Hailey, and I’m running for President of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarianism society; not just because I am dedicated to helping and supporting others, but because humanitarianism is my passion. Being a part of the DRRH society this year has allowed me to deepen my understanding of crises around the world, and has introduced me to the kind and enthusiastic community that gives our society life. I wish to give back to the DRRH society as best that I can, which is why I am standing for President of the society for the coming year. I have much energy to give, and if chosen will ensure that the wonderful socials, experiences, and community of the DRRH will continue to flourish and grow. Help me make a difference in our community and give back to our vibrant DRRH society — vote for me.
