Ben Hopkins

The community of the UCL climbing and mountaineering club has formed the backbone of my social life, weekly structure and supported my wellbeing throughout my 2nd year, a welcoming space that I could truly belong at university. I can't imagine any better position than to lead and help shape the society which transformed my uni experience.

As president I would like to expand club climbing days, in addition to the well established tradition of the Wednesday and Friday Brownswood , and optional Castle climb , I would like to propose we officially add a Tuesday climb at yonder, and a Saturday Evening EustonWall climbs to catch the cheaper £7.50 entry. This would help ease more people into the sport and society as whilst the castle holds a place dear in all our hearts, we can all agree its bouldering can be a mixed bag and despite being a huge and an epic literal castle, it is quite possibly one of the most confusingly laid out centres any climber will ever step foot in making it feel somewhat overwhelming for newer members trying to integrate.

I know that branching out like this would help broaden the reach of the society as there are many more UCL climbers than UCLCMC members.
The community we have built is truly wonderful, and I would love to as president help bring more of us climbers together.

Also more members, more club money, which means we can organise bigger and better fun things to come!!! 。◕‿◕。
