Hi,
Having served as both Outreach Officer and Vice President of the Classics Society over the past two years, I would love to bring my experience into next year as President.
As a Citizens Advice Adviser, I help people navigate challenges like homelessness, benefit appeals, and debt (which, thanks to our current Treasurer, we don’t have!). These experiences have strengthened my organisation, communication, and leadership skills, all of which I’m confident I can bring to the role to effectively lead the society.
Beyond this, my work as a Caseworker for the Trans Legal Clinic—where I coordinate with firms like Dentons to secure funding for essential legal support—has prepared me well for applying for grants through the SU (and, if necessary, persistently chasing them down to make sure everything is in order…).
I’ve also taken on several roles within UCL, including Transition Mentor and Academic Rep, so I’m no stranger to coordinating with the faculty. As President, I would make the most of these connections to organise department-funded trips, like this year’s Oedipus theatre visit.
For events, I’d ensure weekly socials including, of course, pub socials, but I’d also love to introduce hands-on workshops—think ancient jewellery-making, pottery sessions, and a Roman-inspired food night.
Finally, I love a well-structured form and hate unfinished tasks, so you can count on me to handle everything quickly and efficiently.
Thanks for reading, and I’d love your support!

I’m standing for the position of President of the Classics Society, as I believe that my age and experience, as well as my background, gives me the skills required to be the head of this esteemed society.
If you haven’t seen me around, especially in the Common Room (my second home it seems like), I am Orlando Greenhow, a first year studying the Literature, History and Archaeology pathway. Despite this, I have also decided to suffer through Greek and Latin!
Prior to this, I studied Law at Southampton for a year, which I believe has given me a varied experience and skills that would be useful in being President. Luckily, I realised the error of my ways, and came round to Classics being the better subject to study.
The community and people here have been extremely welcoming, and I see the Classics Society acting as a perfect conduit to develop this community further.
I will work tirelessly for you, listening to your feedback and suggestions in order to further develop the Classics Society and ensure it goes from strength to strength.
Having attended many socials, I am particularly aware of their importance in developing a community. To achieve this, I will set up a forum in which ideas and wishes are encouraged, and the type of social reflects what the members want to see.
Thank you for your time!
Orlando

I have always had a passion for Classics, whether that is academically or trying to promote Classics to other students.
Our Classics Society is a vibrant, engaging, and unique society here at UCL. For a relatively small department, we have an incredibly active society, frequently putting on events such as our pub socials, speaker series, Toga party and various end of term events and I absolutely love this. As an already active member, I am a well-suited candidate to continue and expand the existing provision in the society. As president, I would seek collaboration between ClassSoc and History Society and other societies of like-minded members, including the London Classicists of Colour, to foster wider partnership which would allow us to put on larger events with other students as well as continuing our own more intimate events.
At school, I was the lead member of our own Classics Society. There, I founded and edited our Classics magazine, Legenda. This is something that I would like to re-introduce within our Society and department to further individual interests through journalism.
In terms of running events, hospitality and event management is something I have known since my early childhood as my father has been a part of the Hospitality Industry for over 30 years. With my own experience and acquired knowledge, I believe I would be the ideal candidate to run successful and innovative events for the society which everyone would enjoy, taking Classics Society to new heights.
