Cheese Grater Magazine: Online Editor

I feel like I have a lot to bring to the table as digital editor, and I think I can find new ways to effectively translate The Cheese Grater Magazine’s unique editorial voice for social media. In the summer of 2024, I did a month-long internship at The Hindu, one of the biggest newspapers in India, shadowing a senior reporter. During this internship, I was made to report on local and national news, and also got to look behind the scenes and learn how a major publication coordinates between different bureaus and edits content for print, web, and social media channels. I also have experience with video editing software like Final Cut Pro, and a short film I made won a student competition held by The New York Times in 2022.  I  ran my school’s blog and Instagram page in 11th and 12th grade, and massively increased social media engagement, with many of our reels passing 50,000 views. More recently, I was the Technical Director of the UCL TEDx Conference, and had to set up a multi-camera video stream to record the event on an extremely tight budget, which taught me how to do as much as possible with limited resources, and familiarised me with the process of borrowing and using SU equipment.  I am well-versed with Canva too, and know the basics of Photoshop Express, having used both as a member of my school’s yearbook club. Looking at the CG’s social media accounts currently, I feel like there are many new directions we can go, including more video-focused content.

I have been acting as interim Online Editor and have delivered successful content on Instagram. I believe online platforms can help The Cheese Grater reach a wider audience, and that accessible and engaging content are integral to the society. 

I also look forward to exploring new ways to improve the online experience for readers. If elected, I plan on working closely to support the editor-in-chiefs and section editors in delivering content. I also hope to increase social media collaboration across the society and potentially explore other formats such as Instagram reels.
