Hi! I'm Emma, a Y1 Neuro student hoping to increase publicity on two fronts:
🔬 For Students, resources & meaningful connections to engage with pressing cancer issues .
- Expanding the Seminar Series – Guest talks from oncologists, researchers, patients & charity workers.
- Journal Club – Discussing science books & breakthroughs.
- Cancer in Art & Literature – Exploring its cultural portrayal.
❤️ For Patients & the Public, educational & emotional support.
- More Pathways for Engagement – Placing our newsletter in hospitals & creating brochures for the public.
- Instagram Series & TikToks – Raising awareness on cancers, charities & patient stories, plus “Day in the Life” reels, and weekly Stories on "Bite-Sized News".
- More Frequent Bake Sales & a Biomedical Charity Ball – Raising funds for cancer charities through regular bake sales and a collaborative charity ball with other societies.
📰 Cancercare Newsletter: I curated themes for it this year & love it! I’d expand it into a multimedia format—comic strips, illustrations, & story-style articles for children—alongside research insights. We’ll also introduce a print edition each semester, celebrated with print parties & discussions.
With a strong background in communication— I honed my skills in content production as an executive in my school’s broadcast club, won the Biochemical Society essay competition, and presented at an international conference—I’ll ensure our outreach is both impactful and dynamic!

Hi everyone! I'm Joanna, a third year Medical Sciences and Engineering student. I enjoy creating engaging and informative illustrations and graphics, hence I've been working as an illustrator on the UCL Cancer Care Project. This gave me an insight into the work of our society, therefore this role would be an amazing opportunity for me to use my skills to support the society as your publicity officer. My main aims will be to increase awareness about the work of all the amazing cancer charities so that you're in the know! As well as sharing the latest news in the field of cancer research and to promote our activities.
I am confident that my experience in leadership, event organization, and publicity will enhance the visibility of our events and ensure that our mission reaches a wide and engaged audience. As the leader of my high school magazine club, I organized regular meetings, tracked progress, and solved any issues that arose to meet our publication deadlines. This experience significantly enhanced my organizational skills and attention to detail. I believe this will help in the distribution of the monthly newsletter, effectively managing multiple aspects of event publicity. I organized pink-themed bake sales to raise both funds and awareness for breast cancer. As part of the publicity efforts, I designed flyers and social media posts and partnered with local businesses to maximize our outreach. This experience in event planning and promotional work has provided me a foundation for effectively publicizing important causes. I also led a podcast project focused on women’s period health that aimed to raise awareness and provide reliable information. I coordinated the production of podcast episodes and ensured that each episode reached its target audience through social media channels, email campaigns, and collaborations with other health-related organizations. This role required me to think creatively and strategically about how to promote and share the podcast to maximize engagement, as well as how to effectively communicate sensitive topics in an accessible and impactful way.
