Hello all, I'm Cordelia (although you might know me as Cords or Cordie) and I would love to have the pleasure of being your social secretary!
For those who don't know me, I'm a first year senior women, having joined the boat club in a fit of panic at the start of the year - an action I'm very glad I took!
When people ask me why I'm still rowing after almost seven years, I tell them that it's hard to quit and stay away from the sport, but the real reason is the socials (and the lovely people) which have been the highlight of my first year at UCL! I know I may not seem the most talkative at first, but give me a drink and you'll soon know my life story! (Apologies to those who have already been subjected to this.) I would love to be in charge of socials that give everyone else the chance to overspill, whether it be because of a pint too many or because the atmosphere is just so friendly and comfortable!
Socials play a huge role in settling newbies into the club so I know how important it is to have a good social secretary. I would continue to build the community of the club and incorporate even more cross-squad activities so that we really feel like one big happy family! Whether it's a drinking or non-drinking social, everyone having fun and creating long-lasting friendships will be my top priority and I promise that Wednesday evenings will - if they're not already - be the highlight of your week!
Sam and Nads' boots are big ones to fill, but I promise that I'll do my best!
As a fresher, I’ve made it my mission to rarely (if ever) miss a social or a Scala Wednesday. Whether that’s to my credit or my downfall is still up for debate… but commitment is commitment, right? That same energy and enthusiasm is exactly what I’ll bring to the role of Social Sec.
Next year, I want to keep the iconic Phineas nights going strong, while also introducing some fun, interactive socials to help everyone get to know each other better. Ideas include squad-themed pub crawls, team quiz nights, bowling, and more. My aim is to make sure new members feel instantly welcome, and to build stronger connections between and within squads so we all feel like one big team.
I’m organised, reliable, and always happy to plan events and take on board ideas from everyone in the club. The location for my second-year house is a big priority—pres and afters are 100% on offer, and I’ll make sure I’m living somewhere central so we can all get loose together (responsibly, of course…)
I’ve had an amazing time this year and made some great friends through UCBC. I’d love the chance to help create that same experience for everyone next year.

Hey everyone!!
When I first joined during the taster period, I had no idea how much this club would shape, and consume, my time at UCL. After a rough session where my blade kept getting stuck because of square blading and a very unbalanced boat, I ended up taking a break from training. But even when I wasn’t rowing, I kept turning up to the socials - because I couldn’t not. In the end, it was the socials that brought me back, and now I couldn’t imagine enjoying the sport more.
Through being a Social Sec, I want to make sure next year’s socials stay something everyone looks forward to - whether they’re here for every training session or still figuring out if rowing is for them (although it really shouldn’t take them too long). As a former windsurf team captain back home, I was the one bringing the team together, and I’d love to do the same for UCLBC. Having already put in effort to drag as many friends as possible to socials, sometimes feeling like an event promoter, I know that the more people there, the better the night will be. Whether it’s keeping up the best traditions or bringing in new ideas, I want to make sure there’s something for everyone - though the current Social Secs have set the bar high!
I’d love the chance to keep the good times going, bring people together, and make next year’s socials just as unforgettable. Looking forward to another year full of laughter both on and off the water!

Hello I’m Chiara, I’m a first year and a nov. I decided to try a ‘give it a go’ session during freshers, but little did I know that I'd become part of the rowing family. I have forged some of my closest friendships, made unforgettable memories, and been pushed out of my comfort zone thanks to all of you.
I am never one to miss a social and as a seasoned veteran to the weekly Wednesday sports nights this year, I hope to keep the good vibes going by organising some truly “loose” socials that will remain as fond memories long after we graduate.
Being a part of this club has left an indelible mark on my life and that is why I would like to give back to this club by playing an active part in welcoming in and nurturing future freshers like you've done for me. Previously, I was the head of events in my sixth form house which gave me some experience and gratification from seeing the positive extent to which socials can create a sense of community and belonging. I would be honoured to have the chance next year to be your social secretary!
