Etienne Royer-Gray

RUMSBC has shaped my university experience in ways I never expected - from my first nervous strokes as a novice to the unforgettable highs of racing. This club has given me a second family, and I want to ensure every rower has the opportunity to feel as safe, supported, and valued as I have over 4 incredible years.

So, why me? With 3 years on the committee, I’ve seen RUMSBC from every angle – training novices, leading seniors, and all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps us thriving. As Novice and Senior Men’s Captain, I’ve developed a deep understanding of risk management and contingency planning across two seasons of racing. As President of RUMS Welfare, I’ve supported students through academic and pastoral concerns while working closely with UCL’s reporting systems.

If elected, I will focus on:

Strengthening Safety – Improve club-wide understanding of safety protocols, ensure contingency plans keep training on track, and streamline communication to minimise disruptions.

Improving Welfare – Develop a ‘what to expect’ series for each year group, with signposting for financial & mental health support and a dedicated welfare resource hub.

Enhancing Education – Organise earlier tutorials, with structured peer teaching series throughout modules and informal OSCE groups closer to exams.

Over the last 4 years, RUMSBC has been more than just a club - it’s been my home and greatest source of support at uni. Being able to go full circle as Safety & Wellfare would be an honour!💙💛
