I have felt so lucky to give back to boat club as the current secretary, but there is so much more that I would love to give back to this wonderful club after everything it has done for me; therefore, I have decided to run to be the next novice men's captain.
I'm extremely fortunate to have rowed for 6 years in which I have rowed for M1 in RUMS and at a national level at my previous school, during which I was coached by top level athletes in their fields; I've also been a rowing coach for beginner rowers during the summers of 2021 and 2022 in which I led training sessions and organised crews. I would be honoured to have the opportunity to coach the next novices and share my knowledge in order to produce competent and able rowers.
Being the club secretary over the past year has been incredibly fun and has meant that I now have an greater understanding of the committee and all of its behind-the-scenes work, which would greatly help me to hit the ground running when coming into the new role.
Being the novice captain also about looking after the welfare of your rowers; I would want to run regular drop in-sessions to see how the novices are getting on and if they need any help or support. For me, inclusivity and club mixing is vital; I would love to hold more socials between novices and with seniors in the first term to help integrate freshers into the club as well as more inclusive non-drinking socials to help to foster in them the sense of community which first drew me into RUMSBC.
