I feel incredibly lucky to have found my community as a novice in my first year and I hope to carry forward this incredibly supportive and tight-knit bond next year! I aim to focus on creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where every member feels valued, motivated and celebrated whilst pushing them to reach new milestones. Most importantly, I hope to spread my newly found love for rowing to the next year's novices!
As Novice Women's captain, my main goals include to:
- help the novice women's team connect amongst each other and integrate with the other UCLBC squads
- sustain good communication within the squad and react necessarily to feedback
- maintain high team morale and keep them focused and driven throughout the year
Having previously taken up the role of swim captain as an ex-competitive swimmer, I would love to translate the leadership, teamwork and communication skills I have learnt into the rowing squad. I will stay committed throughout the year and be the novice women's best cheerleader, especially during those gloomy winter water sessions!
Over the short few months that I’ve been engaged as a novice rower, I’ve begun to appreciate rowing as more than just a sport and have come to understand that it’s also about teamwork, resilience (especially through those cold winter months) and pushing limits both on and off water. As a passionate and committed member of our club, I am excited to run for the role of Novice Women’s Captain to ensure every beginner finds their place in this incredible sport.
Why me?
• I aim to promote a welcoming and encouraging team environment where all rowers feel supported and valued regardless of their background or starting point.
• I will ensure proper communication within the squad, with the club committee and coaches to efficiently convey details about crews, training and session feedback while making myself approachable for addressing concerns and complaints
• Opportunities for developing a tight knit community within the novice women will be made to encourage participation and commitment which will help build a strong and successful squad.
I’ve come to love rowing more than I ever expected to and would love the opportunity to help the incoming novices find an equally strong passion for the sport. Through my past leadership and teaching experiences, I believe that I am a great candidate for this role and will give it my best! You can count on me to be responsible, committed and stay motivated to building a strong novice squad and having a fun and successful year!
