Rahim Ali

Growing up in Tower Hamlets has taught me to embrace my culture and take pride in it. Being part of BSoc this year and later joining as one of the charity reps has been an amazing experience. BSoc has helped me settle into university, making me feel at home. For this reason, I want to give back and help it grow even bigger by running for Vice President, so even more people can enjoy it as I have!

Some of the events I want to introduce include:

• Girls’ sports alongside boys’ sports to make BSOC more inclusive to everyone

• More games nights, which are always a highlight of BSOC!

• Unique events like a samosa-making social to bring us together in new ways!

As a Charity Representative for UCL BSOC, I was heavily involved in MAA Month, helping at bake sales and fundraisers—even shaving my head for charity as I managed to raise £430 for MAA! This experience showed my dedication to giving back. If elected, I aim to raise even more funds for great causes (such as MAA) while creating a stronger sense of community at UCL BSOC. Therefore, you should choose me to be your VP for UCL Bangla Society as I am positive in bringing about change and doing our country a service through giving back!

Finally, I would like to be Vice President of BSOC is that I am a passionate and outgoing. My passion will make BSOC a more positive place to be in the future!  My biggest ethos is, ‘The only way is up’, and I believe we can make BSOC blossom in the future if you vote for me as Vice President!

Taseen Dhrubo Bakht

I'm nominating myself for UCL Bangla Society Vice-President.

Having spent almost 20 years of my life in Bangladeshi soil, having taken in the richness of its culture and the essence of its heritage, I feel I carry the responsibility to represent my country at this prestigious institution.

Having known the sweetness of my mother tongue and the diversity of my people, I feel the urge to voice out our presence through music, through dance, through attire and through anecdotes at UCL.

I find myself thinking how applying for VP might seem strategic objectively. Am I willing to escape extra responsibility as a President or am I looking to shift blame as a non-holder of the highest position?

But you see, the answer lies within my country. Although Bangladesh leads globally in many regards, it fundamentally seeks to co-exist, to assist and be assisted.

As the Vice-President, I hope to be an enlightening mind in planning for the society, I hope to be a bridge in the committee to exchange knowledge and ideas through effective communication. I hope to be an amicable individual to all members and to introduce them to the welcoming and homely nature of Bangladesh through fun events, games, charities, intellectual exchanges, debates, trips and food.

I wish to show UCL what's so 'bang'-ing about Bangladesh. And as the Vice President of UCL Bangla Society, I will unite all members and non members, out of Sylheti or Dhakaiya, and instead under: Bangalee.
