Hi, I’m Yoko, a second-year BASc student on the Health and Environment pathway.
I was part of the committee last year, and while I really enjoyed it, I do regret that we didn’t have more society-wide events, including welfare-focused ones. That said, I was always in touch with many BASc students across different years and pathways (mostly from spending TOO much time in the common room) and I made sure people’s voices were heard, which I believe is an important quality for a Welfare Officer. Given how broad our course is, I understand that finding a sense of belonging can sometimes be a challenge. As a Welfare Officer, I would work to create plenty of opportunities for BASc students to connect with each other and set up a system to address the different welfare concerns that you might face!
