As a psychology student, I believe I am well-suited for the role of the Welfare Officer for the Arab Society. My degree has allowed me to develop and build upon core skills, including problem-solving, active listening and empathy-qualities that are crucial for this role. Additionally, my volunteer work at an advice centre for Middle Eastern and North African women, with a focus on mental health, has further strengthened my ability to support and understand others.
My priority is to ensure that every member of our society, including the committee, feels comfortable, supported, and is able to discuss any concerns without hesitation. I will actively listen to students' concerns to create and maintain a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels valued and respected. A strong sense of community in the Arab society is essential, and with student experience as my number one priority, I want students to see this society as a place to have fun, make friends, and connect with their culture.
Confidentiality and trust are key to this role. I will handle all concerns with discretion while ensuring appropriate action is taken when necessary. With my dedication, empathy, and commitment to student well-being, I believe I can make a positive impact as Welfare Officer.
