I am excited to nominate myself for the role of Vice President of the Arab North African Society. Being part of the subcommittee in my first year was an incredible experience, allowing me to help organise events and engage with our vibrant community. Now, I want to take on a greater role in shaping these experiences, ensuring our society continues to thrive as a welcoming and dynamic space for all.
I am passionate about celebrating our culture, connecting people, and creating opportunities for both social and professional growth. Meeting individuals from diverse backgrounds, as well as those who share similar experiences to mine, has been truly rewarding, and I want to ensure that everyone feels included and valued. If nominated, I will work hard to strengthen our community, expand our events, and make our society an even stronger presence on campus.

Through my previous experience as Media Co-Lead in Arab Society, I have developed a deep understanding of our committee values, operations and goal of cultural outreach. By enhancing visibility and engagement through managing our online presence, I played a key role in establishing our society’s identity. Beyond my involvement in the society, my role as Deputy Head Girl in Secondary School strengthened my ability to organize large-scale initiatives and lead creatively.
Looking ahead, I aim to expand our impact beyond social media, utilizing my experiences by focusing on sponsorships and professional networking. As VP, I strive to build on the success of our first-ever Careers Week and sustain the momentum of career-focused events. By leading sponsorship efforts, I hope to secure valuable resources, strengthen connections with industry professionals and create opportunities for our members. I plan to facilitate mentorship programs, alumni networking and career guidance with professionals who represent diverse MENA backgrounds. I hope to play a role in shaping a society that serves as both a social and cultural hub, and a space for professional growth.
I am committed to giving back to the broader community by organizing fundraising events and strengthening our collaboration with charities. These initiatives align with my vision of enhancing our members’ experience in a culturally rich society, committed to celebrating and connecting our community.
As a Moroccan who has lived in the UK for a while with the yearly commitment of visiting family abroad, I’ve come to appreciate the immense value of community, especially one that honours and remembers to celebrate the importance of shared cultures, languages, histories and identity. I found a strong sense of belonging within the Arab and North African society - from which friendships and connections have arisen. It is this very feeling of welcome and the rejection of alienation or loss of identity that I would strive to strengthen as Vice President of UCL’s Arab and North African Society.
If elected, I would:
- Seek to enhance cultural events to build a strong community and utilise an already-present link with other university Arab Society committees to expand social events.
- Seek to educate, academically and otherwise. This includes arabic language teaching, mentoring, networking, speaker panels on Arab & North African culture, history, politics, society and identity alongside fun society discussions and debates.
- As for giving back, a mix of local work and international charity work would be perfect in uplifting those at campus and beyond: I would love to take an initiative in this endeavour, especially for pressing matters such as Palestine, Syria and Sudan.
I am passionate about amplifying the experiences available to university students much like me. I strongly hold that I can represent the society well and be of valuable assistance to the Committee and society at large.

I am excited to nominate myself for Vice-President of UCL’s Arab and North African Society because I am deeply committed to strengthening and elevating this diverse community that has shaped my university experience. Serving as Subcommittee Media Officer gave me invaluable insight into the impact this society has on its members, and it fuelled my desire to take on a greater leadership role—one where I can make an even bigger difference. Through my work in media, I strived to make our platforms engaging, representative, and a source of pride, fostering a sense of unity and belonging. Now, as Vice-President, I want to build on that foundation and take Arab and North African Society to a further level. As Vice-President, I will strengthen collaboration within the committee, ensure smooth event execution, and act as the link between leadership and our members. Working closely with the committee, I’ll strive to implement initiatives like mentorship programs connecting students, and showcasing our rich heritage through cultural celebrations. My goal is to elevate our society from within while expanding its impact across UCL and beyond. Above all, I want Arab and North African Society to be a society where every member feels valued, heard, and proud of their heritage. With my leadership experience, creativity, and dedication, I am ready to step up as Vice-President and help shape a more vibrant, inclusive, and impactful future for the UCL Arab and North African Society.

As an Iraqi who has grown up surrounded by a rich arab culture, I am deeply proud of our beautiful heritage and I am eager to create a space where we can celebrate our traditions together-whether through sharing traditional dishes, embracing the energy of dabke, dancing at our lively haflas or engaging in discussions over some shai and gahwa. I'm determined to make Arab and NA society a place to build a community and make connections even through bonding over the little things- like who makes the best kibbeh? Is falafel the true star of our cuisine? Who has the easiest dialect? I believe the best way to connect with people is through food, laughter, and shared experiences and I want to ensure a welcoming and vibrant home away from home for everyone who wants to engage with our culture. I’m approachable, fun, and always ready for a lighthearted argument or a spontaneous dance session. If elected as Vice President, I’ll bring that same energy and warmth into everything we do, from big events to casual games nights bonding over endless plates of manakeesh and warak enab. I've had experience coordinating events throughout my time at university and I look forward to bringing that energy and creativity to the role, ensuring our events are always fun, memorable, and full of life. Yalla, let’s make Arab and NA Soc a place where our hearts are full, laughter is constant and the bonds we create are unbreakable :)
Being a Lebanese I have a deep understanding of Arabic, English and French cultures and languages and I know how unique Arabic culture truly is. Moving around a lot as a child awakened the importance of holding onto cultural identity and fuelled my passion for preserving heritage.
The finest aspect of our culture is the warmth of hospitality, generosity, and respect that exists across our different countries which makes me take pride in being an Arab and I want to ensure that those values are mirrored and celebrated.
Participating in multiple ArabSoc events I have seen first-hand how they foster connections and provide meaningful opportunities. This motivated me to introduce initiatives that go beyond social and professional gatherings including community, charity projects and educational events.
As a house captain in school, I developed strong leadership, organizational and teamwork skills. I was responsible for organizing events and ensuring that everyone was included and valued whilst managing responsibilities, working collaboratively and giving back to community.
As VP, I want to further expand the society’s reach, working closely with the President and committee to introduce new initiatives enhancing engagement and strengthen networking opportunities ensuring that our events continue to be well-structured and reflective of the diverse interests of our members.
I am excited about the prospect of serving as VP and contributing to the continued growth and success of ArabSoc.
