I'm eager to serve as Events Officer for the Arab and North African Society, driven by a deep interest in the rich tapestry of Arab culture and history. I believe events are the heart of a vibrant community, and I'm committed to crafting experiences that both celebrate and educate. I envision a calendar filled with diverse events, from cultural nights showcasing traditional music, dance, and cuisine, to film screenings and discussions exploring the region's complex history and contemporary issues. My goal is to create spaces for dialogue and understanding, fostering connections among members and sharing the beauty of Arab and North African heritage with the wider UCL community. I'm passionate about bringing historical narratives to life, organizing lectures and workshops that delve into the region's fascinating past. I'll ensure events are inclusive, welcoming to all who wish to learn and participate, and that they create a lasting impact, fostering a deeper appreciation for the Arab and North African world.

As a current media representative of the Arab NA society, I've had lots of fun making memories at the events during my first year. Because of this, I would love to bring in new ideas for events, such as collaborating with other cultural societies to create a tighter sense of community. Additionally, it is my goal to celebrate North African and Arab culture by promoting it through events that would showcase the food, tradition (such as clothing) and music. One thing I have always enjoyed about the society is meeting new people, and I would be honoured to socialise with new committee members when organising events, as well as newcomers of the society, and I hope to give them a pleasurable experience with ArabNA soc if it is their first time coming. Logistically, I also think my organisation skills will come into play with regards to organising fun events, and being sharp on time when it comes to setting the place up on the day. I'm willing to listen to more suggestions that the members have for new events, such as more girls' nights or more varied cultural collabs, and I cannot wait to see what new events the society could endeavour in! I am excited about the future possibilities of this society's events, as well as meeting with new members, and I hope to have won your vote!

Hi, my name is Sara, I'm Bahraini, and I am currently in my first year studying Biomedical Engineering. I have always believed that culture plays a crucial role in shaping one’s identity. Having lived in three different countries, I understand the importance of staying connected to your roots and community. Arabsoc provides a platform for students to celebrate and preserve their cultural heritage, and I am eager to contribute to this mission. I am nominating myself for the role of Events Officer because I possess the organizational and project management skills necessary for the position, along with a CMI Leadership and Management Certification. I am confident in my ability to plan, execute, and enhance events that will engage and inspire students. Some event ideas I have in mind include a "Chit Chat Chai" night, art workshops such as mosaic and tatreez, and a cultural fashion show. My prior experience in organizing my sixth form’s culture week—where we hosted a fashion show, kiosks, charity food sales, and informational talks—has equipped me with the skills to manage large-scale events and collaborate effectively with others. I look forward to the opportunity to bring these ideas to life and create lasting, meaningful experiences for me and my fellow students.
Thank you for your consideration :)
