My name is Will and I'm a second year medical student who will be intercalating in neuroscience next year. My main interest in psychedelic research comes from the potential I believe it to have in developing our understanding of the science of consciousness as well as its application in mental health conditions like depression or OCD.
I see psychedelic science as a field held back by campaigns of social oppression and non evidence based drug policy. This focus is equally as important as the science and changing students mindsets is a big part of what I believe the society has the power to do.
As a member of the committee, my aims would be:
🌀 A Stronger Sense of Community – I want to create a space where like-minded students can meet, share experiences, and form real friendships.
🍻 Both Casual & Structured Socials – More relaxed meetups at the pub for casual chats, but also continuing structured events like paint-by-numbers nights, film screenings, and discussion groups to dive deeper into psychedelic history, art, and philosophy.
🌍 A more connected society – I’ll work on collaborating with Psychedelics Societies at other universities as well as other UCL societies to organise joint events, and expand our network.
🌿 Exploring Drug Culture – Psychedelics are more than just substances; they’re a cultural movement. I’ll help create opportunities for safe, informed discussions on harm reduction, history, and the impact of psychedelics on art, music, and spirituality.
