Dakshika Chandrasekaran

My journey in charity service is marked by significant milestones; including setting up a charity stall in my Sixth Form to raise £1000 for Palestinian relief efforts, and the successful organisation of a donation drive to 30 undersupplied orphanages in India–providing them with sufficient textbooks, stationery supplies, and clothes. By coordinating these events, I honed my leadership and organisational skills; learning to navigate complex logistics and collaborate with diverse groups to achieve a common goal. This experience enhanced my social awareness, exposing me to stark realities, while encouraging me to explore the initiatives we can take to tackle this. I believe this embodies the universal values of empathy and assistance that our Tamil culture holds dear. These experiences have equipped me with a unique skill set and a deep understanding of the transformative power of community work. It is my sincere belief that together we can build on our Tamil traditions of generosity and community support and create a substantial impact, which drives me to seek the role of charity representative. If elected, my primary goal will be to promote and support meaningful charitable causes, working seamlessly with the committee and society members to ensure our efforts make a tangible difference. With a vision for positive change, I hope to represent our Tamil Society and aid the wider community.

Meerah Perinpanathan

Being a charity representative is important to me as I want to make a positive impact and help those in need while mainly supporting causes that mean a lot to the committee.

Over the years, I've participated in and organised various volunteer activities, including bake sales and talent shows during charity week at my previous school. MegaMalai is one of the many shows I have taken part in that raised money for charities. From these experiences, I have realised that not only are we raising money but are also making many connections with other people outside of university, for example, people in charity organisations. I believe this is crucial as it provides us with more of an insight into what happens with what we have raised and the impact it has on others. The key skills that I believe I have are to be communicative and make sure everyone takes part and to think of creative ideas to raise money ensuring we are enjoying ourselves at the same time.

Some events that could be put in place are movie nights and fashion shows which display our culture and how it has changed over time. We could also host a treasure hunt on campus, maybe at the beginning of the year, allowing people to socialise and feel more at ease. For the sports side of things, I would push to host a rounders match with all the admission prices for these events donated to charity.
