Without a doubt, the Sudanese society has been my favourite society of the year. The committee works very hard to create a welcoming atmosphere and ensure a vibrant and fulfilling time during and out of events. I want to stand for welfare officer to be able to make a positive impact on any newcomers and returners to the society. Creating a community that is accessible and comfortable for everyone is extremely important to me especially by ensuring there is a safe space for people to turn to if they are in need of any support. Undoubtedly, it has been a really difficult period for Sudanese people everywhere, so having a safe space for people to go to has been more important than ever. University is hard as it is, but I hope to provide a space of comfort and ensure a secure support system with incredible people around you.

Zainab Abdelaitif

I am standing for the position of Welfare Officer because I am committed to making a positive impact within the Sudanese Society and the community as a whole, particularly for those enduring the hardships of the conflict and whose families have faced displacement and hardship in recent months. I understand that as outsiders, we may also experience added mental health issues, especially during communication blackouts, and there is a crucial need to support each other more than ever. I am currently pursuing a part-time MA in Education, Health Promotion, and International Development, and feel equipped with the skills to address welfare issues effectively.

My goal is to support every member of the society, not only outside the society but also through society events as well. I believe there is significant potential to collaborate with other societies to integrate charity events into regular activities from time to time. With connections to UN representatives of Sudan and Sudanese filmmaker friends willing to support the cause for free, I am excited about leveraging these resources for a good cause and can easily plan and propose charity events. I am here for the welfare of people both emotionally and practically this way.

With experience in planning charity initiatives, such as establishing a mental health society during my undergraduate years studying at university in Japan, I am happy to be someone people can talk to, including the president and vice president for any help.
