Sewa is a way to carry out the blessings and the teachings of the Guru's whilst helping the community to become a better place. We have the ability to elaborate our altruistic characteristics through a variety of ways including distributing food to the less fortunate through to carrying out a small deed to help others. Since volunteering with an organisation called Gurseva as part of the Sikh society it has helped me to see how a small act of kindness can enrich someones life. I want to continue this work through to each generation of students and hope it will allow others to find a passion of wanting to make a difference in someones life whilst also building a strong rapport with different people.

Saran Kaur Thiara

Hi everyone, I'm Saran and I am running to be volunteering officer! I believe that this would be an extremely rewarding role, enabling me to organise events which put the principle of 'seva' into action. We are extremely blessed and I feel this is easily taken for granted and so would be honoured to have the opportunity to help give back to those less fortunate through volunteering with organisations such as Gurseva and by organising events such as Langar on campus. I'm extremely passionate about helping others in any way that I can. Being an FYR this year has meant I have learnt what is required to be part of a comittee and feel I am well suited for this role as have key skills such as organisation, communication and fundraising. I participated in NCS in which
me and my peers raised nearly £1000 for a local mental health charity via a sponsored walk and bake sale and I would relish the opportunity to be able to achieve similar successes as volunteering officer. I would love to be able to make a difference and help spread the values of Sikhi.

Amandeep Kaur Mavi

Hi everyone,

My name is Aman and I am running to be your Volunteering Officer for Sikh Society.

Sikh Society has been such a valuable and enriching experience for me at university so far, allowing me to learn more about Sikhi, be around like-minded people and have conversations in an environment where I can feel comfortable asking questions and learning more. Seva is so core to our faith and its something I am very passionate about helping to continue and grow within our society.

To do so I plan to organise more volunteering opportunities around London to help our local communities and invite speakers to talk about the origins and importance of Seva in the Sikh faith and the role it should play in our lives more holistically.

Additionally, I know I have the skills to be able to carry out this role successfully because I am proactive in finding new opportunities, can speak confidently when reaching out to new people and am organised in my roles. I hope to use my role to enrich and mentor freshers who also want to partake in all Sikh society has to offer and create an enthusiastic approach to new volunteering opportunities.

I believe that within this role I can help to make our society community feel closer through practicing a core aspect of our faith that enriches our lives spiritually. If you want to help make this vision a reality and want a representative who can create more opportunities, vote for me for Volunteering Officer!
