Jaskaran Singh

Hi everyone,

My name is Jaskaran and I am nominating myself for the position of Treasurer for the Sikh Society. By nominating myself for the treasurer position, I want to support the society with all the finances, making sure we effectively utilise all our resources and continue to carry out insightful events regularly.

Additionally, as a first-year representative, I have gained useful insight into how the society runs and have developed a good understanding of the financial needs and responsibilities. Therefore, I have confidence in being treasurer and dealing with any financial problems that arise. I will make sure to work efficiently and be accountable with the society’s financial management, dealing with things such as, the budgeting, financial transactions and maintaining records.

I want to continue supporting the Sikh Society as much as possible and ensure we can continue sharing our beautiful religion with the university. By being a part of the Sikh Society, I want to educate as many people as possible about all the amazing teachings of Sikhism and continue to learn about them myself.

Thank you for considering my nomination.

Hanna Kaur Johal

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

I’m Hanna Kaur and I’m a first-year Real Estate and Urban Planning student. As a proud member of the UCL Sikh Society, in addition to meeting wonderful people in the Sikh Society sangat, I have valued taking part in Sikhi-related activities and discovering more about our common principles. Having gained an understanding of the format and operation of events, I would cherish the chance to join the committee and further emphasise the welcoming atmosphere established by previous committees.

In my capacity as Treasurer, I will appropriately budget the Society's funds to continue the maintenance and running of the Society, whilst liaising with the committee to ensure the events align with our beliefs. Guru Ji's teachings on “seva” or selfless service, are ones that I hold close as it reminds us of how we can benefit the world around us. I hope to propagate this message further by making positive contributions to the community and creating chances for education and engagement. Having worked as an accounts assistant previously, I am confident that my skills will enable me to thrive in this role and generate additional funding revenues that can support contributions to these charitable causes and projects as well as social events and Sikhi talks.

Saran Kaur Thiara

Hi everyone, I'm Saran and I study Economics. Being an FYR of Sikh Soc has been extremely rewarding and enabled me to remain connected with my religion at University and so I would love the opportunity to be a part of the core committee. I believe my degree will prepare me well for the role of treasurer as I am confident in handling finances and am determined to use our budgets to organise and execute events to the best of my ability.

I am committed to ensuring that this society continues to thrive and spread the values of Sikhi such as selfless service through volunteering and events such as Langar on Campus. I try to embody other core values in my day to day life such as compassion and humility. The annual Kirtan Darbar was a particularly special event and if elected I can't wait to be involved in planning this and similar events.

I am confident in my ability to be successful in this role and use my skills to give back and help others strengthen their connection to Sikhi, creating a community to make settling into University less daunting.

Avani Sohal

As a dedicated First-Year Representative for the society, I take great pride in actively participating in Sikhi-related events and gaining insights into our shared values and beliefs. My understanding of event structures and operations has deepened, inspiring me to progress further and become a valuable member of the committee.

In the role of Treasurer, I am devoted to prudent budgeting to ensure the continued operation of the Society. I will collaborate with the committee to plan events that align with our values, ensuring they are meaningful and impactful. The allocated funds will play a crucial role in supporting the Society's significant endeavors, encompassing not only social events and Sikhi discussions but also contributions to charitable causes and community service projects.

I believe that my abilities and enthusiasm for Sikhi  will empower me to thrive in this position and actively contribute to the success of the society.
