Sign Language Society: President

Hello! I am Joanna and I'm studying Natural Sciences. 

As a freshers representative this year, I have gained valuable insight into the inner workings of SLS by participating in committee meetings and assisting in the weekly classes. I would like to apply for President of this society due to my personal connection to the Deaf community through my Deaf brother. Sign language has been a significant part of my upbringing. 

I am eager to further enrich the Sign Language Society's activities. One idea is introducing monthly visits to Deaf clubs. This will enable society members to practice BSL in a welcoming, relaxed setting while gaining a deeper understanding of the Deaf community.  Additionally, I think incorporating casual lunchtime practice sessions/ more frequent society picnics will allow more of our members to interact and practice together. 

As a candidate for President, I aim to not only uphold the excellent standard of weekly classes but also expand SLS to include more Deaf appreciation and outreach into the community. Voting for me next year will enable me to achieve these goals and make SLS even more vibrant and inclusive. Thank you  :)
