Salsa Society: Events Coordinator

If you don't already know me from taking register at the door, I’m Alexa, the current Events Coordinator and I'm running for the role again this year 😊!

Like many of you, I’m pretty new to the salsa/bachata world, starting last academic year here at UCL! I was immediately hooked - with many late nights at salsa soho, competing with our bachata team, joining the committee as Social Sec, and this year standing in as interim Events Coordinator.

I have learned a lot during my past 2 years in the society, specifically, how events can strengthen our dance community.

Partner dancing can be intimidating; however it can quickly become a passion – an amazing way of connecting with people. I want to continue creating events that bring students together, where people can feel comfortable practicing their social dancing, discover their passion for dance, have new experiences and welfare is kept at our forefront.

I'm experienced with organising events, negotiating discounts for our members, communicating with external partners in the latin dance community, and working with the Student Union. With these skills, I aim to deliver further enriching events to our members like the boat party, salsa balls, karaoke nights, inter-uni partnerships, international festivals, and oversea trips while maintaining accessibility.

Being part of UCL Salsa has been so rewarding and I hope to continue supporting our UCL community and create opportunities for people to explore their love for salsa and bachata!
