Hey, I'm Shivang, and I'm excited to be running for Events VP!

Having been a part of the events subcommittee for two years in a row, I can say I have loved every bit of organising RUMS events. From helping organise Take Me Out to curry night to freshers fortnight, each event has given me a lot of insight that I hope to bring to the role.

If elected, I would strive to:

1. Represent Diversity

• A priority for me would be making sure everyone feels welcome and represented
• I would love to introduce a diverse range of events that celebrate the cultural and social interests of our medical school

2. Unifying cohorts
• Organise events that spans across all years of medical school, including pre-clinical and clinical students, to foster a sense of continuity and belonging throughout medical school

3. Maintaining inclusivity
• Prioritise inclusivity in event planning by considering the needs of all students, including non-drinkers and commuters
• Implement feedback mechanisms to identify barriers to participation and target initiatives to address them

4. Strengthening transparency
• Maintain open communication channels to ensure transparency regarding event planning and budgeting

There is always something to be done better and my biggest hope would be listening and being receptive to your feedback.

If there's anything I want to achieve as events VP, it is to be a friendly face and be approachable; so if you have any questions feel free to reach out :)

Aishani Dass

Events is an integral part of the RUMS experience - you make your first friends at freshers, and you expose your lack of dancing skill to the world as well. As part of Events subcommittee this year, I gained insight into the hard work that goes into Events, and, if elected, I want to introduce some new things into your RUMS calendar:

  • Winter Ball - I will work with the RAG VP to host an annual winter ball to celebrate the end of term 1 and raise money for worthy causes! It's time to get frosty.
  • I am aware there's a skew of events towards preclinical years; to rectify this, I'll host Boat Balls exclusively for clinical years.
  • Cruci Pyjama Party!
  • Pre exam energisers with Academics and Welfare where seniors give small gifts/letters/talks of encouragement to juniors before exam season takes hold completely, and vice versa!

In addition to these, I aim to:

  • Introduce more non-alcoholic events! I will work with the Equity Officer to ensure students who don’t drink/need to commute will be better represented with more daytime events (including Cruci pyjama party).
  • Reinforce accessibility to feedback through anonymous forms on our Instagram.
  • Work with the treasurer to find sponsors to maintain reasonable event prices, and work closely with the SU to make sure finances are transparent.

Most importantly, I want to be the friendly face welcoming you into RUMS and making sure you're having a fantastic time, so please contact me with any questions/suggestions

Did someone say UH Take Me Out!?

Hi everyone! I’m Sneha, and I’m in second year. You may also know me as the scrubs party DJ, the girl running around frantically behind the last two Take Me Outs, or badminton’s resident charity fiend. Speaking to our previous Events VPs and attendees, here are some of the changes I’d like to implement:

  • UH Take Me Out – I believe that there is nothing that can unite the med schools more than love, and there’s no better way to celebrate that love, than with some balloons and cringey catchphrases
  • Change the structure of Freshers’ Pub Crawl– Having one activity from each club outside their designated pub instead of the ones on the journey, would allow our beloved freshers to spend more time getting to know the different RUMS clubs
  • Add MDs Freshers’ Show to the wristband – Promote the arts, and give freshers more for their money, by introducing them to our very own comedy revue, The MDs and The Ectopic Beats
  • More postgraduate socials – Let’s show some love to our postgrads with more events catered towards them throughout the year

My time on events sub-comm over the last two years has been incredible, and I’ve now seen all the effort that goes into running these events. My aim as Events VP is to fix these small hiccups in an already pretty perfect system, and oversee another successful year of welcoming freshers, sending off doctors, and celebrating RUMS.
