Studying at UCL and living abroad weren't part of my plan. Unlike eager peers, I entered the Portico with reluctance, unaware my first year would be so memorable.

UCLPASS played a pivotal role, offering guidance and fostering connections. From refining public speaking to volunteering, UCLPASS became my "home away from home."

Drawing from my leadership and team experiences, I've developed a philosophy: “Believe in One, why not believe in Everyone?” This ethos fosters collective decision-making and effective delegation, strengthening relationships with PASSes and UCL societies.

Settling abroad is tough, but I'm committed to extending UCLPASS's impact. Together, let's work as a TEAM:

T: Strengthening bonding and cohesion among PASS sub-committees, increasing member involvement.

E: Enhancing UCLPASS's visibility to Hong Kong students through collaborations and online platforms.

A: Raising awareness of social issues and cultural decline in Hong Kong through activities.

M: Facilitating greater participation in social service-related activities.

Though tough, I'm confident my experience makes me a suitable candidate. I humbly seek your support in continuing UCLPASS's legacy. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I am Alyssa, a first-year student studying Psychology and Language Sciences. Having been born and raised in Hong Kong over the past 18 years, I never imagined how different the world could be until I began studying abroad. Pursuing my education in the UK marked a significant milestone for me. Far from my home and family, it seemed as though I was suddenly thrust into independence overnight. UCL PASS became a 'home away from home' for me; not only a comforting space where I feel a sense of belonging, but also a platform that provides various opportunities for personal growth. These opportunities include making new friends, contributing to society by assisting the underprivileged, and becoming more aware of current affairs.

Having once been a newcomer abroad, I can fully empathize with the anxiety and loneliness one may experience when adapting to a new environment. Therefore, my aim is to foster an inclusive and cohesive community where members from all years feel a sense of belonging. Furthermore, I am committed to providing adequate resources for members to fully explore UCL, London, and their future potential, ranging from career opportunities to fostering connections with friends from diverse backgrounds and cultures. To achieve this, I intend to cultivate closer relationships with other UCL societies and PASS groups, as well as creating new activities that promote engagement and integration within the community.

Why UCLPASS? Being away from home in a UK boarding school has exposed me to the sense of exclusion and loneliness studying abroad. I stepped into university unconfident about finding myself a welcoming and inclusive community, yet joining UCLPASS facilitated my integration into university life and opened up numerous networking opportunities for me by the diversity of activities this 23/24 year. I wish to preserve and am committed to strengthen the core values of PASS on top of furnishing the ‘home away from home’ for students who recognise Hong Kong as their home at UCL.
