I am writing to express my interest in applying for the Welfare Officer position. The role holds particular significance for me, as my personal experiences this year have underscored the importance of such a position and has inspired me to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of others. Over the course of the year, I had to frequently attend to family matters, which made me miss out on many society events. During this challenging period, I was fortunate to receive support from our current welfare officer and the guidance I received left a lasting impression on me. This also served as a reason why I want to become a welfare officer as I want to reciprocate the support I was given.

I believe that my personal encounters with family issues, coupled with the guidance and support provided by our current welfare officer, have equipped me with a unique perspective and a genuine understanding of the challenges individuals face in times of need. In addition, my volunteer experience at the library has provided me with opportunities to engage and connect with diverse individuals, which I believe is necessary for this position.

This year I've been getting more involved with UCL after a rocky start to my time at uni. The first year for me had some bumps and I wouldn't want to wish that on anyone as uni is a place where you go to grow up in a safe space and have fun. We are also paying for it so we should probably make sure that we get something out of it. I know that the only reason that I got through the first year was because I had help and support, and now I want to do that for others. I know how tough life can be and if there is ever anything I can do to help anyone I'd always be happy to do it. I'd like to make the Natural Sciences Society a more welcoming place for everyone, so it means that if people do need to reach out for help, it isn't as scary and comes from a friendly place. Besides we're in England so there's never not a good reason to have a cup of tea and a chat to make yourself feel better.

I would like to nominate myself for this role as I always want to ensure that people's wellbeing is looked after and ensure that any concerns that the members of the society has is heard and actually dealt with. I have experience in leadership roles which fit the criteria. I'm currently the Year 1 course representative for Natural Sciences, where I perform a similar role in making sure that the students' voice is heard and that I am able to articulate whatever thoughts are presented to me accurately. I hope i can support students' journey and also support the society as well. I think that I'll be a great addition to the committee as I'm organised and I will prioritise making the society enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved.
