Max Guida

For the past two years, Music Society has been the home of my musical journey. Within Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir and UCOpera, I've had the privilege of performing alongside talented UCL musicians and contributing to the Society's rich legacy. These experiences have shown me what's so special about our Society, but they've also given me some great ideas for where we can go next. With my passion for getting things organised and leading events, I think I'd be the perfect fit for President.

I believe that Music Society has been biased towards musicians of an intermediate/advanced skill level. There is a lack of incentive for beginners to get involved, and when they do, they are often put off by the differences in ability with their more experienced peers. As President, I'd envision a Society where musicians of all levels can flourish, and having spoken with numerous peers who have expressed these sentiments, I am eager to make a difference.

In my view, a couple of steps to achieving this would be the implementation of the following:

  • Beginner-focused ensembles: matching novice ensembles with aspiring conductors for a shared learning experience
  • Peer mentoring scheme: pairing beginner musicians with more experienced peers to develop musical skills in a relaxed setting

Besides these, I have so many other ideas that I'm eager to see take shape, but you will have to stay tuned... 😉

Vote Max Guida for President to C Major changes in the Music Society!

Helene Maurice-Jones

Hello!! my name is Helene and I’m a 2nd year neuroscience student. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of music society over the past 2 years and would love to be your president next year.

Last year, I had the privilege of managing the wonderful string orchestra, and have learnt so much from the role. I’ve organised weekly rehearsals and concerts, truly learning the benefits of the Google form…

Through my time on committee and a member of symphony orchestra I’ve found my true passion - traversing the landscape with a menagerie of musical miscellanea, including timpanis and music stands. I'd love to get involved with all ensembles, embracing the diversity of musical experiences each offers. Whether it's helping set up for concerts or assisting with organising events, I’d like to help  everything run as smooth as a musical saw's ethereal moan cutting through the fog of a ghostly forest.

I'd love to keep the groove alive and continue the fantastic initiatives started by our current committee. One of the main values of string orchestra that I aim to spread throughout the society is the belief that there's space for everyone, regardless of skill level. Enthusiasm and passion for music are what truly matter, and I'm dedicated to ensuring that every member feels welcomed and encouraged to participate fully.

Being involved in Music Society has been fabulous. I’d be honoured to be elected President and facilitate the creation of wonderful memories for others, just as I have experienced.
