Hi UCL MMA!

Over the past 2 years I have absolutely loved my time on committee and enjoyed being part of such an amazing team growing UCLMMA. From my experience being fight team lead and now vice president, I have developed my skillset and experience in knowing how the club functions and the needs of the members. Beyond my roles at MMA I have been President of Impact Careers Society and I hope to take my experiences there to UCLMMA.

I am running as President for UCLMMA as I want to keep up the amazing work of the committee and push for new initiatives in the club. My favorite part of being in committee the past few years has been having the opportunity to meet and help so many people in the club. As President I would focus on the following initiatives to help bring out the best in every member that comes through UCLMMA:

  1. Creating an environment where anyone can learn MMA: As President I will push to continuously improve on our society’s inclusivity and strive to create a safe and comfortable environment where anyone can learn MMA.
  2. Structured support for those who want to excel: As President I would aim to work closely with the training team to ensure that those training at a high level can continue to have opportunities to develop and excel.
  3. Creating more opportunities for fighters and further training: As President a major goal I would have is to create even more opportunities and transparency around opportunities to compete in MMA as well as other martial arts.
Peniel Chew

I have been part of UCL MMA for 2 years (currently into the 3rd year). Many of you will know that I enjoy this sport and the people in this club (I've probably sparred with everyone before at least once). I think that I would now be capable of helping to run this club. I have been part of MMA committee already as social secretary this past year and gotten to make fun experiences with members of this club, whether it was collabs with other societies, or fun socials.

If elected, I hope to be able to continue promoting the club, and introducing the vastly growing numbers of  people looking to try MMA, many for the first time.

While I may be new to a position such as this, I hope to be able to take my experience to:

1. Further increase the popularity of the sport, and of this club.

2. Make this club beginner-friendly without compromising on the training for our more advanced members.

3. Communicate further with other martial arts clubs to offer a more varied experience, as well as potentially better training.

4. Attempt to host our own fight event so we can bring more home supporters.
